Just use the stock ball diff's ...trying to rig gear diff's that are not a drop in fit is a exercise in fultility.

A tc4 gear diff will be good for the Car's rep, and excellent for future sales....

I've been thinking of getting a tc4 so I've been trolling this thread lately. I run a b44.2 and theres alot of talk about putting Team Durango gear diffs in the 44.2. I'm not sure how the inside of the tc4 diff case compares to the 44.2 case dimensionally, but there is a guy who makes the conversion parts to fit the Dingo diffs in. I clipped this from the B44.2 thread.

$100 AUD + Durango diffs.

There was a post in here a few months ago when the gear diff discussion was going that showed how to get it done a little cheaper than using the plug & play bugle boy if you want to do a Google search you'll probably find it.

Edit
I think this is what he linked to...

I need some advice. The track that I am going to use this at has changed the layout and is now a large 1/8 track (Nitro guys). Here is a link---- FYI the track is a little shorter than viewed below by about 15 feet (straight)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RU4QQTJ9H-c

I will go to the track for practice only...not many races there... what a shame....

Due to a long straight away... approx. 200-220 ft. I will need to get the car up to 50mph +/-. I don't want to be rear ended by a nitro car.... Can anyone suggest a motor, gearing. battery combo. I have both 2s and 3S batteries... I would prefer to use a 2S setup if heat is not an issue. I have an extra motor fan that I can install on the motor... I have all kinds of stuff,,, Tekin, Castle, Traxxas.. and would like to use something that I have, but will purchase if necessary... Remember, as there are no races I don't need the latest and greatest... just pretty good... I have a Castle MMP, MMM, RX8, a Veleneon ESC, a Castle 3800KV motor, Tekin 4.5 SCX, a Novak 17.5, and a Traxxxas Veleneon motor.. I think it's a 3500 KV. I just got some great tires.... Top, HPI, Sorex etc... and want to get this thing going.... Thanks in advance....

With a 48pitch 60 tooth spur, what's the biggest pinion you can fit?

Or... What's a good pinion spur combo that'll work with the TC4s motor mount to get a 4.0 FDR?

Same question for 4.2 FDR?

60/43 is max which will get you 3.49 fdr
with a 55 spur you can go 34-47 pinion which is good for 4.04-2.93 fdr

60/35 = 4.29
60/36 = 4.17
60/37 = 4.05
60/38 = 3.95

So I'm new to on-road racing and I bought a club racer TC4 to just get me started at a low cost. I am going to run a 17.5 blinky class with it and I was just wondering if anyone could point me to a general gearing or FDR for 17.5 blinky? Also, what are the advantages or disadvantages of running 64p spurs as opposed to the 48p spurs?

FDR will be different for every track, I would recomend asking at your local track where you plan on racing, or you could start around 4.2fdr and check your motor temp every couple laps and go from there.

With 64p you have finer fdr changes but strip easier.

so 4.2 FDR? Thanks, thats what I was kinda looking for cause I have no idea where to start with on road gearing. I know 17.5 blinky offroad gearing really well since I run expert mod at the local indoor track with it...but its so different, I couldnt just transfer that knowledge over. also, I know in offroad, us 17.5 blinky guys turn the motor timing up to the max, is that necessary for on road or do you just run stock timing on the can?

Fdr start should be 3.75fdr, not 4.2fdr, and timing should be at 40 degrees.... I also run a novak motor in my 17.5t tc4, and 4.2fdr start is mainly for belt cars not shaft cars, which can run taller gearing without running hot..... Just make sure your drivetrain is free, and you're good to go....

I would not recommend gearing that high to begin with, especially with an untested motor and endbell timing. Even in cars with great ventilation 4:1 is an aggressive starting gearing.

Also, fans, at least one big one of 25/30mm or two smaller fans.

I started at 3.65fdr with my tc4 17.5t and a novak ballistic(12.3mm rotor), with no heat at all after six Minutes, so to me a vulcan(12.5mm rotor) should easily handle 3.75fdr.... If you ask for most racers fdr advice, they will give you what fdr works in their belt cars, not shaft cars, and even when they switch to a shaftdrive, they still keep gearing as if they're still running a beltdrive Car... Old habits die hard !!!

Well, my LRP X12 motor / Novak GTB2 set ran 4.0:1 in my Losi touring car, now it runs 4.0 or so in my shaft car, and it would go nuclear without fans but still gets to 170F with them. It's timed according to manufacturer spec, and the car spins free. If your car runs well at 3.65, thats great, but it's far out of the normal range and recommending it to others with no knowledge of their equipment (you know, besides that it's a Vulcan) or track type...

Start conservative on all settings, then go by lap times and temp.

I only recommended it to the racer because he runs a novak motor like I do, eventhough I run a novak gtb2 vs his reventon.... Lrp motors do get hotter than novak motors, and should be geared like you suggested....
