What is IRS? An online hobby shop? Can anyone provide a link?

Fast dragsters ! Anybody running thick shock oil (60wt to 80wt) in their tc3/4 ? I had 40wt in my shocks before, but the car was turning too fast and bouncy . Now with 80wt and stiffer springs it's poise and turns much slower !

Ummm, sounds like you had an imbalance between your springs and your shock-oil previously.

If you're bouncy, it's likely your springs were overpowering your shocks (i.e. they were too strong for the oil/pistons to dampen the reaction).

Of course, it could also be that your environment was too much or your driving style/speed was too much. If you go up from stock to mod, you do need to get stiffer as you're putting a LOT more load on the suspension. . .

Typically I run 40-50# with red springs, but I also tend to run a lower motor/battery combination, at least in my TC4.

Thumbs up

I had the 40wt with blue springs, standard setup on a bumpy large track . The car seemed to be shaking all the time . I switched to 80wt with gold springs in front and blue springs in the rear , the shaking stopped making the car more controllable . People told me 80wt was too thick, but I like the way it tamed the car's previous jolting movements !

The shock oil restrains the springs from compressing or de-compressing too quickly. In general, the higher the tension of the spring the thicker the shock oil will need to be because there is more "spring force" to overcome.

I think temperature should play a part in shock oil weight, hot weather thick oil, cold weather thin oil. My normal range of oil is 30-60.

It also depends on piston holes width and numbers of holes.
I do not believe that temperature on the synthetic oils we use now is that important anymore.

WELL I WOULD LOVE TO RAISE. BUT I NED TO TUNE MY CAR FOR THE 6900 KV MMP. I THINK I HAVE COME TO REALIZE THAT THE MOTOR MIGHT BE TOO MUCH FOR DEBBIES. OR I MIGHT NOT EVEN HAVE IT TUNED RIGHT. BUT AT THE SAME TIME I WANNA DRIFT IT TOO.

SO I THINK I NEED TO CHOOSE WHAT I WANNA DO . DRIFT OR RACE?
