It is easy to switch cars to presumably go faster, but it is more rewarding to make so-called old cars faster than new ones !!!! Don't give up on your tc3/4 cars just yet, they have alot more speed in the tank than you think !!!!!!!

It's a TC4 rtr, 17.5 boosted with Tekin Rs Pro, Mazda Speed 6, stock servo but it will be replaced, picked up a set of threaded shocks. Looking to get one more TC4 for blinky. I was racing Hot Bodies TCX and Cyclone which I'm looking sale.

Bubblehead, good combo in your RTR !!! If you have a digital 2.4ghz radio system, think savox digital servo (sv-1257tg) 0.07sec/139oz for only $63 WOW......If you think you were fast then, you will be amazed with the new servo !

WELL CONSIDERING I JUST GOT THE CAR ON FRIDAY WHEN I GOT BACK IN TO TOWN. I HAVE NOT RACED AT ALL YET. THE LAST TIME I RACED AT DEBBIES WAS WHEN THEY WERE ON GREATNECK ROAD. MANY MOONS AGO!

I AM ABOUT TO ORDER SOME LIPO BATTERIES NOW. THEN CHECK OUT SOME MOTOR ESC COMBOS. THE ONLY THINGS I GOT FOR IT SO FAR WAS A BLUE SCREW KIT AND SOME DRIFT TIRES.

COULDN'T BEET IT FOR $150 SHIPPED!

If you can't run digital, the futaba s9402 is the next best thing ! By the way, is $150 for the rtr or the fttc4 ???

Very well ! The rtr responds very well to smooth shocks(trf) .I have three of them , one with a Co27, one with a 7t cobalt, and another one with a novak HV4.5R for fun !!!! It handles them all flawlessly , and is easier to work on than the two Ft versions I also own !

Thats at the axle... not including the tire.

If you were taking tire size into account then your answer would be whats called rollout. Thats different.

Are you planning on staying with 48 pitch gears? 64 pitch would serve you better in the pursuit of the best ratio.

The motor cam wont rotate enough for you to fit a 45 tooth 48 pitch pinion on your 72 tooth spur. You need to go much smaller on the spur.

Your ratio of choice will vary as well by motor type, speedo type, and physical motor or ESC timing advance, track size, etc. Telling you to throw on what equates to a 4.0 FDR is a guess at being right.

For my personal 17.5 setup at our local outdoor medium sized track, i mostly use a 64 pitch 81 spur and 41 pinion for an FDR of 4.939. The 64 pitch spurs i use range from 78 to 88 teeth. Pinions range from 38 to 46 teeth.

In your search for the right gearing, try to use the smallest spur possible to place the motor as close to the center of the chassis as you can. The better the car balance, the easier it will be to drive consistently and fast.
No wonder my car seemed slow yesterday my FDR 6. Thanks Dave for being so detailed.

On a tub chassis you can grind the "webbing" under the pinion to allow for larger pinions and also cut down the motor mount cam to allow for more rotation. I am running a 48P 65T Spur and 40T pinion to get 4.06 FDR for 17.5 "blinky"...

Guys , even though the 64p gears will give you closer gear ratios, they don't last as long as 48p gears ! Changing the spur on a tc4 is not as easy as in a belt car ! So the next best thing is to go to the Robinson gears website and buy their new 48p spur gears that come with 49teeth, 52teeth, 55teeth, 60teeth, 66teeth ,etc, for outstandingly high ratios , and durability !!!! I will never run 64p with these gears out !!!!!!!

Also, I forgot to mention the new Robinson 48p pinion gears that come 41teeth, 43teeth, and 47teeth , for even higher gear ratios !!! Whatever you do, visit Robinson Racing website for more details, you won't have to dump your set of 48p pinions and spurs !!!!!!!

Just be aware, in TC these days, with the new generation of motors running cooler than ever, ratios of 3.2 or lower are becoming very common.
