Default Weird shock Qweschun

I cant get the VCS bobbin to snap down into my shocks anymore. I have switched to the yok caps and am not using the VCS foam around the bobbin. Can I just use the flat piece used in the older AE shocks? (I am guessing the edges of the VCS bobbin have worn. This keeps the 2 o rings from compressing around the shaft at the bottom so my shock leaks like a sieve)

Set-up question

At 5mm ride height, what droop settings (measuring via: droop over ride height) are you guys using for 19t/Mod foam on carpet? First time running foam with this car and I need a starting point. Thanks -Dan

Ran into a bit of trouble Dave. If I completely back out my front droop screws I can't achive anything more than 4mm over ride height (and this is with 60mm tires) Do I need to grind away from the chassis (I'm still running the tub) and lengthen my shocks or something?

Blackkat I believe he was talking about 5 and 4 for droop when measured with an AE droop guage. NOT over ride height. I personally run about 5 all the way around (on the AE guage)

Are you running the outer shock mounting holes on the arm... and out on the shock tower? If not, try taking the shock off of the car and pulling on the shaft... it sounds like the VCS bobbin is creeping up into the shock body, and limiting your total downtravel. In worse case, it backs out so far the o-rings pop loose and the shock drains the oil. If this is your problem, then the only way to solve it is to replace the bobbins, and insert them at an angle, each point in until you have to flatten the bobbin at the last point... if you just press it in straight all eight points on the bobbin get shaved a bit, and reduce the bobbins ability to stay in place. When i run the outer positions on the shock tower and the arms with smaller tires, i use ASC6419 .56 length unobtanium shock shafts. The standard shafts are shorter and can cause a problem with total downtravel... especially with smaller tire sizes. But if your running 60mm foams, it sounds like an internal issue. Check it out and let me know.

wow Dave, if I'm understanding you correctly, you run with a ton of droop. Doesn't that make the car roll excessively. If I were to us mm over ride height for droop I would be between .5 and 1 front and rear.

LOL Bob no the 5 and 4 are droop gauge numbers for his 60mm tires. Its a general starting point. As the tires get smaller so would the droop gauge numbers. I usually run similar amounts of droop as you mentioned, and actually measure droop with my ride height gauge, like i mentioned in e-mail before. Although i have found lately that the way my car is setup, it is seeming to like a little more droop than before. You would think with whiteF/yellowR springs and a mediumF/thinR anti-rollbar the car wouldnt roll alot. The FT is a different beast altogether. Im pushing for more track time this weekend.

hey Dave are you sure you aren't getting the "wheel barrell" effect from shocks being too stiff? PW used to talk about it all the time with the old Mi2. Just food for thought. I'm with ya on the track time. I should be getting my new motor mount this week for my car and then Im going to try to get some track time on Sunday...probably just practice but thats fine with me. If not then It will be first leg of the ORL series with no practice, and to top that off...the track that its at is cuffs, williams, shreff, home track. They said last week there was an A-E mains and you had to fight to make the A. Just like a National and this is going to be every week. How sick is that.
