Hey guys,

I just came across a serios problem with my TC4. I just installed both steel outdrives. Both are built correctly and nice and smooth.

Now, when I put both diffs inside the car and spin the wheels, the input shafts pop off. Im pretty sure this is because of a mesh that is too tight. So I tried every possible shim combination, and now my drivetrain binds pretty bad. I even shimmed the input shafts and had no luck.

Does anyone have any idea on what the probelem is. I just want a drivetrain with no binding. Not this 10 sec. nonsense.

Thanks,

what I also noticed is that when I spin the wheel one way its quiet but once I spin it the other way it makes a loud grind sound.

cracked... the TC4 comes with aluminum...

Looking for some setup help... or perhaps its my driving...

Any tips on how to help both a lack of turn in at hi speed under power, and pushing thru low speed turns when i try and give the car some power. This is for is for hi-traction carpet

Front
Med sway on the front (went from softest to med - no noticeable change)
red springs
50wt Trinity oil
4 deg caster blocks, stock shims (totals 6 deg caster)
1 deg toe in
stock shock positions
rubber tires
2 deg camber
stock wheelbase shim positions
Droop 1.5mm

Rear
no sway -backordered
40wt trinity oil
tried both gold and copper springs same result
2 deg toe in (stock shims)
stock shock position
1 deg camber
wheelbase set forward with all hinge pin spacers at rear
Droop 2.5mm

Batteries positioned to the front
HPI Stratus (v1) baby wing

From the lack of difference the changes have made I am starting to think its either A) lack of rear sway or B) trigger finger

I run wide through the hi-speed sweepers, and I can't get around the slower turns very tight and push pretty hard on exit.
Oh yeah ball diffs front and rear.

Off the power the car has lots of steering, but it seems relative to others on the track I am losing alot of time in the slower corners.

Anyways, I am open to suggestions... even if it is all in the finger

Gilles (Utrieh),

For the first time in over 40 years, I do not actually own a Mini Cooper. Son Josh wrote my last one off a couple of years ago. But we still have a Mini connection. The one in my avatar is the 16 valve Mini I raced myself up to a couple of years ago. It belongs to my brother and he races it at the moment.

We have built up a Terrapin (Mini engined single seater) for Joshua to drive. In fact we have a hill climb this weekend.

I have plenty of pics. I will send yousome in a private e mail as this is not the right place for it.

Most carpet setups with rubber tires use a one way. I would go with one but you would have to tune the setup to remove some off power steering but both high speed and low speed steering would benefit with one.

To try and tune your current setup with diffs, i would remove the front sway bar and go from one degree toe in the front to one degree toe out. It will help the car point into the corner and should help with low speed steering.

Raisng the rear roll center or lowering the front might also be a couple of things to try.

Don't forget, make only one change at a time so you can feel what each change does.

Addicted: I tried the Yokomo one way diff for the SD I had and it's too large (1 or 2 mm)
Yokomo is making a oneway housing:
Yokomo SP-3967-6 One-way housing for HD front one-way
and you can buy the oneway bearing separately from Yokomo and probably from Squat too (not sure):
Squat 126 One-way bearing (2pcs)
You will need also special outdrives (inside diameter is 6mm like on the SD)

JohnBull: Thanks, I'll send you an email later I'm very curious

Hey guys, since I'm runing my TC4 my ESC/motor gets very hot after 3-4 mins of runtime, this never hapened with my evo3S
The drivetrain is nice and free so I don't know where its coming from
I tried different motor/ESC and it still very hot and the gearing is fine too..

Can you guys help me please? Can it be the bearings? the ones on the cvd's?

Thanks in advance!

I was using a 12*1 HT V2/lrp v7.1 and GM 12*2/quantum pro geared at 6.6 but when I took out the motor I realized the drivetrain wasn't free at all but it was fine before runing the car so I had to re-shim the drivetrain again, I also took one side of the ruber sealed bearing off to make them more efficient
Now everything is back to normal but I didn't have time to run the car after to check if it got better, perhaps I should check the wheel bearings and take off one side off the ruber also

One thing I'm sure of, the motors/esc never got so hot so there has to be something puting stress on the motor

Oh, I also checked if the wheels weren't too tightened

Have to wait until tomorow now, hope it will be ok cos I'm going to the track if the weather is not too bad

any sugestions would be helpful!

cheers!
