And I've trimmed off the battery posts, and put a slot for taping.

With these mods I was able to get my balancing ballast down from like 25g to more like 6g.

I couldn't think of much else to do to get weight down that wouldn't weaken the chassis... so right now I'm at about 1450g.

I am not sure about the color of the diff gears and what significance it has. My original diff gears where to thick and I had to dremel the center out a bit and messed one on them up one did come out fine but I ended up buying a diff gear for a TC3 (it was the same color as the one that came in the TC4 kit) and it resolved the problem with the diff. And I also nixed the plastic outdrives in favor of the IRS aluminum ones they are more reliable then the plastics ones and lighter then the assoc lightened steel ones. The only drawback was I had to install pin cusions on the CVD's you just have to press the orig pins out and put the new IRS cusions in it was fairly easy.

Oh and to answer you queation on the feel of the diff.
It should be smoooooth without much resistance.
When the gears are to thick the diff actualy felt smoooth but had some resistance even when the setting was loose! and you could hold the spur gear and one wheel and still spin the other wheel.
when you tighten the diff to stop the wheel from turning it gets way to tight and feels rough. Thats basicly what i have expierienced with the original kit gears that where to thick.

Thats cool I have been there a few times to watch I just got a TC4 and finially got it ready to race. I haven't raced R-C in about 4 years and then I ran a B3 and T3. So all this is really new to me again. What tires should I run remember I'm new I need something pretty stable.

Try Cyan/Magenta or Plaid/Purple. Most people are running the Cyan/Magenta.

If you need setup help with your car don't hesitate to ask any of us with the TC4. There are 3 of us who have them running pretty good so we should be able to get you going.

cale - What track are you racing at? Is it indoor/ outdoor, asphalt, carpet. concrete, gym hardwood floor? What region do you live in and what are the temperatures like where you race? Let us and know and we can better assist you and your needs?

Platinum hobbies is a tight, med to high bite carpet track. Niftec or similar compounds (no Paragon). They have been sweeping the track about once a week which has really slowed the track down. We're about .5s slower per lap this week vs. 2 weeks ago.

Default TC4 - diffs

Thanks guys, on the diff answers!

By the way, I hate to seem totally ignorant, but can you tell me what pin cushions are? I've seen that mentioned as read the previous 94 pages of posts (<G>), but really don't get it!

Jack
the tracks are both indoor carpet road courses, one is pretty small and tight, the other a lot bigger and faster wider turns, both are new tracks I think about 2 month old or so.

Seems like you got a good local to help you out. These forums are awesome for that. Racing is so much more fun with all this information flowing freely about.
