Any chance that running the new arms and Losi c-hubs and carriers will help with this. I'm looking to jump ship from my xxxs and was hoping to run the tc4 but alot of the confidence I have in my driving right now is knowing that if I cut too soon or push wide the xxxs will take a tap without shattering.

Default why I switched from TC4

Here is a copy of the E-Mail I HAD to send to my sponsor...
Keep in mind I had made a big deal about wanting to run a TC4 this indoor season.. oh jeez...

"Sir,

2 more X Rays have shown up at our club since Christmas.

Middle of the pack kind of guys, top of the B's, maybe bottom of the A's, you know the type...
INSTANTLY quicker !!
I mean, like timed to be between .2 and .5 a second a lap quicker !
SO, I thought maybe it's the track, went out and ran with both guys, and 1 of them I just couldn't run with anymore. This will not do.
So, should I jump on the X Ray band wagon?? Are you laughing your ass off right about now??
Let me know what you think
Talk to you soon

Stu "

So I'm sitting here tonight to prep my TC4 for the Novak Race and I notice that the car isn't as free spinning as I'd like. I pulled all the drivetrain bearings and tossed them into my bearing cleaner and was shocked at how much grease came out. I mean, I had to change the cleaning solution 3 times! But once I did this the drive line was freer, but seemed to have excess drag even with everything reshimmed. Almost sounds like the problem with the original gears some of you described, does that sound right to you guys?

We I 1st ran the stock bearings I ran them straight out of the box and I cleaned them after 10 packs and I found them to be a tad bit more free spinning after the cleaning then befor.... but they soon went in the trash after I bought ceramics for the car..and I have one of the more free spining TC3/4`s at my track..but the key that I have found to getting the drive train really free is the shiming of the rear input shaft between the gear box and the rear input bearing holder... pay close attention on not to over or under shim it as for the gears...try to take some 400~600 grit paper and remove some of the rough spots on the gears but only do this for a few times on each peak and valley of the gear..also this can be done on the bevel gear to

Default stulec52....

I would jump on the x-ray. Sounds like they put out a great product. I would change just an integrity issue alone. I'm about ready to jump on the Pro 4. lol. Don't exspect any strait forward and honest answers from AE thats for sure.

Default Dave, do you know the bearings sizes...

for the drivetrain bearings? Too much info required for Boca's bearing sizes. Thats if you just know of the top of your head. How are the Squat brand? Never heard of them. I know Boca's are very high priced.

To tell you the truth I don`t know the sizes off the top of my head..sorry... but as far as the Squat brand bearings.. they are some of the best that I have used hands down and they make many other types of bearings besides ceramic

So why is everyone so ready to jump ship on this car? I think that the setups are starting to come around and the car is getting faster. I like mine and am starting to see improvments with each change Ive made. Dont get me wrong though...the X-ray is a fast car.

Default Dave...

Thanks for the setup dave.

The day turned out to be fairly damp but with a few setup changes (springs, front kickup etc) the car seemed pretty dialled, just wish i could of had more runs

Again, thanks for the setup
Matt

I think this is a bit of a bold generalization... *everyone*?

I'm liking my TC4 more and more. I had my best lap times ever this weekend at Mikes racing a Snowbirds layout using something similar to the Barry Baker carpet setup on rc10.com. My car is now fast enough and dialed enough for me to concentrate on my driving.

I think you'll find that critics are typically more vocal than the people that are happy with the car. RCknight is apparently gonna bag on the TC4 indefinitely on this thread.

I'd suggest, however, that for every 1 person that's vocally unhappy with their TC4... there are 10 that like it just fine and are here to discuss ways to improve their setup.

Great answer Bob. I think it's the vocal minority who are dissatisfied.

I love the car and will begin running it more and more.

Default Moth Ball my TC3's

My son tried his new TC4 last week, and on a track that we have been racing on for a month, he posted his fastest lap times ever. That was after only 3 packs! They drive different, and they set up different, and they work great!
