Default Is this a good measuring caliper?

I picked up a digital measuring caliper (6") from harbor freight today, it seems pretty good, they say it measures down to .001 or .0001, but i go to measure wheels they say are 28mm, and they turn out to be like 28.22mm. Is this because of my caliper, or is it because the manufacturers measure to the nearest whole number on wheels?

You may want to zero out the caliper before taking measurements. The manufacturer is just saying how far low that the caliper can take a reading.

28.22 v. 28mm?

Not bad! My Jaco 28mm were closer to 30mm [got curious after they were rubbing and measured]. Your caliper, as long as you follow Guns' advise by setting it to zero, should be good-to-go.

I got a set and its accuracy is rated to .03 as a margin of error.

Sorry, .003 is the correct margin...don't know about you, but .003 is so close I won't see/feel the difference.

Checked out the caliper, looks very, very similar to mine [no black inlay on the ruler portion] and I have the 8in version so I can use it to measure track width [it is a bit clumsy in some tighter areas of the chasis to use though]

^5 again

i thought it was a bargain too, only 16 bux. Couldnt go wrong, anyway, need some way to make sure my foams are even. Also comes in handy when trying to measure the size of your mouth compared to a burger.

Default Caliper

I have used this very same caliper for the past few years with no problems.
