You will need to connect your speedo to the computer with a usb bridge to tell what version of software it has on it

+1 Anybody know?

I was under the impression that the TC had much better suited boost profiles for on-road.

I hope I can use the comp being that I already have one!

The TC and Comp profiles are the same (they run the same firmware).
The main difference is that the TC can handle lower wind motors and is intended for higher current applications, like TC Mod and 4WD Short Course mod.
The Comp is fine for 1/10 off-road mod and works for 1/12 mod too.
Some guys use the Stock Spec in 1/12 mod for a little more grunt.
If you're running anything 10.5 turn and higher with boost, you want the Stock Spec.
For non-boosted stock racing either version is fine, since they all have blinky mode.

No offence, but I would not have posted onto the forum, if that was the answer I would get.

I wanted to know if you could find out by reference to manufacturing date or serial number if it comes with 4.4 or 4.2 without shelling out on the USB bridge

can someone tell me the answer?

I believe all SXX SS ESC's sold after April of this year has the new 4.4 firmware. The people in the UK were getting them back in March according to some of the past threads I found. Hope this helps! You could send a message to Sean Cochran @ assoc. and he'll tell you for sure.

I do not know if this is correct but be advised that hobby shops may carry older stock. I bought two last month while in the US and they were both version 4.2.

What size are the two bearings in the X-12 motor? I want to order some new ones but I really don't know what to buy. I checked the manual but if it was listed it managed to evade me.

That's very true. There may be some old stock sitting on the shelves. Now with the USB Bridge, that can be updated at home without shipping it back.
