Disregarding maintenance issues, what would be better between novak ss5800 and a GT7/Orion V2 10x2 or 10x1 combination?

Depends on track small tight track brushless if open then revo will be better suited.

the novak is a very good unit for general racing on a smaller track layout, for the majority of racers, only the more experienced people would need more power on a smaller track

if you want awesome power and no maintenance issues, go grab a hacker 7t motor, and either the hacker comp speedie or the schulze U-force speedie, very good combo, it is what i run now

im dont know about the hacker but i was using my v2 12single and i was beating a novak ss5800.
so a 10 single would be much faster.
out of a 10 single and 10 double it depends on tightness of track but in general id go with a single.
if this is a spec class ie 10 turn limit id definetly go with a single for that extra power down the straight but gear it a tooth lower then you would a double
the v2 is by far the most powerfull motor i have driven.
it is more effeciant b/c of the alloy endbell.
just get a v2 and never look back!

well if your traqck is small i woudl say go for the brushless because i would say it would out torque any 10 turn out there

I am not a V2 user but I think at least the alloy dissipate heat better than plastic.
Brush shape, its angle etc are another factor to its efficiency.

buy a brushless, you can use the motor as much as you want...
Go faster...
better efficiency...
longer runtimes...
better for your battery packs...
and you learn better controlling your car with it, more speed and more torque...

My friend and I did a side by side comparison of the novak 5800 to a 14T Double V2 and they were very similiar in performance. The novak did have much more run time though. To get 10 turn performance you have to run something like a Hacker C40-8s, Lehner basic 4200 or 5300 (depends on gearing and speed control), or one of the Kontronik Twist series.

I run conservative gearing with my Novak BL, it lasts at least 20mins on GP3300. I doubt the 10x V2 will last half of that.
