Futaba S9551 or Savox 1251mg??
 

I am running 17.5 boosted Touring Car on carpet as well as asphalt with rubber tires... which servo is more ideal for this application and why?

i am not well versed with either of these servos, more partial to Hitecs, currently using Hitec 7775MG for my onroad 1/10 ep, but i would go for the fastest digital (also reliable) servo you can afford. the low profiles are great especially if you have space concerns (i would recommend them). i think anything upwards from 7 kg of torque for a 1/10 onroad touring is fine.

Oddly these are the only two servos I have, I have used the Futaba for 18 months, Savox for about a year.

I rate both very highly, the Savox is a bit faster but I think the Futaba is a better servo. Its hard to describe but there is something very precise about it when in the car. I feel the steering more directly. I don't mean twitchy, I mean its feels exact and makes the car feel smoother.

But the difference is mimimal. I'm still quite happy using my Savox. Its almost unbelievably cheap for how good it is.

BTW many say the Orion is a great servo. Perhaps it is also made by Savox but I am not sure.

I recommend the Savox. And yes, there is Savox 1251 servo under the Orion name.

Don't think you can go wrong with either to be honest, I've not used a savox but heard good things about them.

I have also both and the savox is a bit faster dan the futaba and in my opinion you can't go wrong with the savox, they are cheaper and that's also very importand.

I've used both. Currently prefer the Savox for a variety of reasons, but be aware that the Savox servos draw a little more current than just about anything else out there. If your system, especially a Spektrum 2.4, is running at or near brown out levels, you MUST run a glitch buster cap or the drain of the Savox will surely push you into full electronic brown/black out. Only takes a few microseconds of the available power to the reciever dipping to throw most 2.4 systems into a brown out condition (like full lock steering under high cornering load and punching the throttle coming out of an infield turn), and the Spektrums seem to be the most susceptible to it. Usually manifests itself under full throttle and a slight touch of the steering, and the reciever won't have enough current to keep it's electronic brain linked to the transmitter.

We tend to ask a LOT of our electronics today: must be mini or micro, light weight, and run a fan, transponder, high speed/torque servo (sometimes 2 or more, depending on if you're electric, nitro, or rock crawling or monster trucking), power a computer brain ESC, and a whole host of other electronic gadgets that we cram into these awesome toys. Fact is, there's no free lunch on that score. Circuit board solder runs can only handle so much current before they poof, and the chips are engineerred to protect themselves through some sort of shut down failsafe to prevent that from happening in most cases.

Usually not a problem, as most of us run the glitch buster anyway, just be aware that all that power(torque) and speed from the Savox isn't ALL just internal gearing advantage and comes with a price, electronically, and that price is a high electrical current demand.

As far as performance goes, this is the best servo i've bought. I just put one in the Photon and the FF03.

Ive had a Futaba 9551 pretty much since i started (few years ago), when i brought my new car I also brought the Savox to go into a wet car, So I put it into the dry car just to make sure it worked. And I was amazed at how good the servo was, slightly quicker than the Futaba. The only downside is that it is LOUD! in comparison, and if it gets damp and cold, it starts squeaking - no joke!

However, long story short, The savox was brought as a spare servo, but is now being used as my main servo and the Futaba has been rejected to the pit box for the time being. Call me crazy, but i prefered the savox.

The only reason I wouldnt sell the Futaba is that it cost me £100.

So save your money and get the savox for sure

The Specs on the Savox servo look a little better than the Futaba, but I own the Futaba S9551 and It has served me VERY well. I have run it in about 5 different cars I own, which include the Slash 4x4, XXX T, Mini LST with an EXotek conversion, Ofna Hyper 10TT, and a Mini STE. It's just that good!

FUTABA hands down.You just cant beat futaba quality. Savox is nice and cheap but is power hungry and VERY loud. I prefer my servos quiet. If you deside to buy futaba take a look on BLS 551. Its even better AND brushless.

I totally agree. The Brushless would be WAY better. Even quiter, faster, and more powerful!

For the price you can't beat the Savox. However, if loud servo buzzing gets to you then go with the Futaba. I had good results with my 9550 until the top case wore out allowing the gears to wobble, $10 later a new 9551 case and idler gear fixed it.

It seems that I've managed to replace all my Futaba servos with Savox in all my 1/10 off-road cars. I'm still using the Futabas in my 1/12, WGT, and 1/8 e-buggy. (TC has died in my region so the 9550/1 is sitting on a shelf in my TM-EF4.)

Thanks for all the replies... I currently have both servos so getting one over the other based on price is not an issue. Basically, I like the way the Futabab servos respond and I think I'll just have to try them both out for myself and see which one I feel most comfortable with. We'll see....
