Passing of Parma Founder, Ken MacDowell

It is with a sad heart that I announce the passing of my Dad and our founder, Ken MacDowell. 11/24/34 - 12/21/10
He passed away peacefully Tuesday evening with my Mom and I in attendance.
He was diagnosed about five years ago with a rare movement disorder called PSP (progressive supranuclear palsy) caused by a brain disease, for which there is no known cure or medication. In lieu of flowers or for more information, make contributions at curepsp.org.

Ken was the founder of Parma Model Raceway in 1964, and along with his wife Joyce, grew the business into an internationally known manufacturer of model car racing products known as Parma International, Inc. Ken retired in 1994.

Visitation will be held Thursday 23rd from 2-4 and 6-8 pm. Funeral services will be Friday 24th at 9 am. For more info and tribute page, please visit

My prayers and thoughts are with him.He was a leader in the hobby industry.And now,, a legend.I have probably bought every slot car body Parma ever made ,almost anyway.

Mike, I am sorry to hear this and our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.

I had the pleasure of meeting Ken back in 1998 and it was very apparent that he had a passion for the hobby industry. He will be missed by many.
