KV rating wtf lol

hey guys. i been around rc cars for a fair wile now. so im used to ranking motors in turns and rpms.

so wats the deal with this kv rating. i need to kno how to convert kv to turns or rpm so i can find a decent speedy to run my 5.5 turn brushless and the 2.5 i have at work lol

multiply the kv X (Volts) you are applying to the motor for the RPM

2.5 and 5.5 turn motors will need a beefy ESC to run them.

Kv ratings tell you how many revolutions per minute you get for a given voltage and nothing else!

For example a weak rotor motor my have a very high Kv rating but not be able to drive higher gearing. A strong rotor motor my have a lower Kv rating but be able to drive higher gearing.

Also different motors have different amounts of timing built in which also effects the Kv output massively.

Also, the Kv ratings are usually given without added motor timing, and also with no load (free reving). Not a lot you can tell from Kv, other than what "class" the motor is.
