rdx for drift....

I personally consider the RDX my 'wooby' for carpet foam. However, if it keeps the hobby going....

I looked around and didn't see any sort of setups for drifting. What are you going to run for springs, oil, ride height, etc?

I'm guessing drift runs a really stiff chassis? Like 33 - 36lb front springs and 30lb rear with like 80/60 oil, 5mm ride height with minimum droop? thick chassis instead of thin... zero caster....?

Some people run a stiff chassis, but that's only beneficial if you run on a hard and smooth surface like concrete and carpet.

Since most of the meets are on parking lots, I run 20 wt in the front and 30 in the rear. soft springs up front and medium in the back. any stiffer and it bounces all over the place.

I don't run any droop either when I'm on a parking lot. but for practice with an uneven surface I think it's a good idea to run a couple mm of droop.

Thick chassis? definitely on a parking lot. Thin can be used for the concrete. You can run zero caster if your driving style calls for it. I run the box stock setup. I also like about 0.5 neg camber in the rear and 1.0 neg deg camber up front. Toe-in is stock aswell.


Most people run a locked diff or spool in the rear. I'm a little different in the sense that I keep both ball diffs in. the front is a little tighter than the rear. I drove cars that had a locked rear/spool in the back and I found them to be a little too tail happy compared to the way I have mine setup, which gives some very nice transitions through the corners.

Just like in real life, the more throttle you give the car, the quicker it will rotate through the corners.

Depends on the surface. On carpet, I use HDPE rings for practice and LDPE rings for some reasonable speed. reasonable being that if I wipe out, I end up breaking something. Asphalt it's reversed. I can't explain why it works the way it does but LDPE gives the speed while HDPE is the ones for practice.

There's also the HPI drift compounds and the Odyssey Garage tires that I have yet to pick up.

I tried ABS and while they're good for learning, they lack the punch and grip I desire in a tire.

BTW, I'm also looking to race carpet/asphalt with this. Seeing as this thread is just ginormous, what's a good setup or two to try?

I just bought a used Corally off e-bay. I'm almost done setting it up for this weekend. BUT... My shocks are leaking out the top.........

The manual doesn't really help so I maybe you guys can. The diaphrams look OK dont see any holes in them.

Any help would be GREAT!! Thanks

Well it turns out, It was a diaphram problem after all. I was able to use some from an old set of 3 racing shocks from my TA05.
The fit GREAT!! no leaks.

I've bought used rdx as spare car for my xxx-s. but I still am unable to make it drive at least as losi... It is very nervous, easily spinning. I run on parkplaces, angles are back 1deg, front 1deg and toe in 0.5, what can I do to make it more stable? I run on 2 diffs, brushless, rubber.
