Default bye bye anodising

So i was cleaning my XXX-T today after a nice little bashing session. I was just taking parts off and tossing them in a bucket of hot water so i wouldnt have to brush them all off (im out of canned air too) So it came to my GPM front A-Arms and i thought what the hell. So i took them out a bit later. Not thinking a bit later i looked at the red stuff on my hands. Seems the anodising came off in the hot water. Now i have pink A-arms & front axles.

lesson learned

Was there anything else in the bucket..? maybe from previous use....? I was trying to get anodizing off a while back and hot water didn't really do too much for me. I ended up using Drano (oven cleaner is supposed to work good too) to get the anodizing off. Even with the chemicals it took a few dips to get all the color off.

Your reason is highlighted in Red ... some makers don"t use all that great of Anodising and the results show after cleaning your car or using some motor cleaners...
sorry to hear about yout pink arms though..

If you do not want them to be pink, take them off and spray HD Oven Cleaner on them and it will take it down to the bare metal. I can show some pics if you want. Probably better than pink.

they arent much heavier, you'd be suprised about how light they are compared to plastic/graphite..they are only a tiny bit heavier.

yea, i thought it was the GPM stuff, but my axles faded as well (MF Red).
there was probably some oxy clean in there too.... which may have done it.
why alum a-arms? cuz i dont care about weight, its just a fun truck.
I guess ill go back to my graphite arms.

what you could do is put them in there again and take them to the bare metal colour...i guess that would look pretty cool (if you did all the red parts like that)

I read somewhere you can recolor your metal parts w/ some 9 volt batteries and some porcelean cleaner. you can change color by varying voltage and lenght of soak. bear in mind i'm remembering an article from a few years ago and have never tried this myself but if you going back to your graphite arms, well, what are you going to do ruin your aluminum some more? just a thought.

It should work with Coke as well. But if i am not wrong, this works only on titanium.

Only works on titanium and is safe or fairly safe as long you dont' get crazy. To do alum it'd be best to have a business do that b/c you could buy the stuff needed for a few hundred bucks and do it yourself but it's more dangerous with the chemicals you use and not something you'd want to do in your house/garage.
