newcomer to on-road: help/suggstions please

The LHS is getting ready to build a big CRC carpet track for on road and oval. I have only raced offroad and Im in my 2nd yr of that. I have been offered a AE RC12L4 car with spares and tires and a TP 1s lipo and a reciever pack for free. Im not looking for a ton of speed, I need controllable, so I can learn to drive it. Im not a strapped driver at all, very smooth and steady(try to be :D) Not exactly sure what Im looking for in suggestions, just the basic essentials I guess. Is the 12L4 like bigtime outdated? Im not sure what I will do for esc/motor at this point as Im awaiting class info from the race director. I will post back when I get the car and thanks!

Have you seen the LiPo fitted in the car? Because the only reason the hobby has moved to link cars is for LiPo fitment.

The car is outdated, but it doesnt matter. I am beating Gen XL's with my old 3.2 Carpet Knife, and there are others doing well with older cars then mine.

If you can get all the electronics to fit, then its probably a fine car to start with, until you get hooked, and by a new car. Then do the hobby a favour and pass the 12L4 onto somoene else to get them hooked.
