M05 fast gears

any one using the fast gear set from 3racing? I'm having trouble with pinon gear mesh one the larger pinons..

pyro18t 12-03-2010 09:03 PM

Psssst.... your having a problem because god is mad at you for using cheater gears

laNcE_08 12-03-2010 11:28 PM

LOL!

These gears are cheats!
Aside from the fact that they're ill-fitting with each other.

Put back those normal Tamiya G-parts instead and you'll be off to a fun racing experience.

They are soooooo weak. I've seen people brush the track markers and strip them. Not worth the hassle.

No, Mini racing is serious stuff. Run the stock gears.

He's not righteous, he's right.

we all run them at my club outdoors

the straight is 70m long and standard gears dont cut it with silvercan

the best thing to do is boil them , i did and never had a problem after that

i use them in both my M03 and M05 the best thing with the mesh is to build it in only one half of the chassis and look how the mesh is and the screws

i think with one set it is

20 pinion and screws in the 16 holes
22 pinion and screws in the 18 holes
24 pinion and screws in the 20 holes but i couldn't get this pinion through the hole in the motor mount on the M05

the other is

18 pinion and screws in the 16 holes
20 pinion and screws in the 18 holes
22 pinion and screws in the 20 holes

Interesting, how long do I boil them? will they shrink? I have the gears mounted and they are very tight, but I run them nonetheless...

The car is not that much faster with the gears in. But then again I have not hade the opportunity to put in a bigger pinion, still running the 20 that came with the kit. anyways, it is now some 6 months or so beföre we can use the mini outside....

what i did was boil the water in a large pan , put the gears in a mesh so they dont hit the bottom of the pan , boil for 5 mins then let the water cool with the gears in it

clean them , dry them and your ok , there is a little differance with only 20 pinion but with the 24 pinion it is like night and day

We have 2 classes both run in the same heat , M chassis standard and M chassis mod , both same silvercans but with all hop ups allowed (no chassis mods) in the mod class and it works really well we pass the Std class alot quicker

Thanks!
what is the result of boiling them? will they be smoother ? They are pretty tight as they are out of the box.. Out of curiosity how did you come up with that idea?

i will get a 24T pinion to mine then as we also have a very long stright and it gets dull holding full throttle all the time only lettting of at one point on the track.
We are during this winter switching to brushless, we will try the 13T sensorless. Hoping to get that little extra speed to make it even more fun.

pyro18t 12-05-2010 11:24 PM

I think the 13T would be fun, but it's going to scare away first time racers from our track seeing an additonal $50-60 on top of everything else they need to buy. Not to mention we are still trying to form a solid Mini class as it is. The most cars we've had in 4 races is, 4 cars.

yes I see what you are saying, we are 2! yes 2 that are running minis now... and that is as a second/third car as we run Pancars and 1:10F1 as well.
We are worried that they are to slow to attract a crowd... :)
