The VTX1 prototypes we used at the Snowbirds race were black. There is no confirmation on whether the production ones will be, however if you prefer one over the other... this is as good a place as any to tell Viper what the people want!

Any setup help I can get would be great.

For perspective here is a video of me practice running at the track I'm the gray car

Hopefully some of our 17.5 boosted racers can get on here and help out. I'll send an email out right now for gearing recommendations with that motor on the VTX esc.
Our boost function creates a massive amount of rpm and really allows the motor to wind out. There are so many variables with tuning a boosted setup, but in general I think you'll find yourself gearing about 0.5-0.75 FDR LOWER than where you were running with your previous esc (Tekin I assume). So if you were running around a 5.7 before, I'd probably start around a 6.4-6.5.

Yes it WAS a Tekin I was running a 6.67 final drive so I will start with that.

If you were running a 6.67 I would drop 2-3t when changing to the VTX. It seems the lower the load the more rpm it creates and a lower gear gives more torque and lower temps. I would also rather see people starting at a more conservative ratio while learning a new system There is a default "spec boosted onroad" profile that will be a good starting point setting wise.

-----------------JBRL Update: Andrew Smolnik's Race Report----------------

• Andrew Smolnik TQ and Wins Superstock with Viper Power!!!

JBRL Rnd 2 @ OCRC April 2nd 2011
The JBRL Electric Series round 2 was located at OCRC located in sunny southern California and had an amazing turnout of 275 entries.

Because I’ve been away from electric racing for some time now, I see many new faces at the track which is exciting for me. I always enjoy meeting new people as it is. I also have had the opportunity to reunite with some old friends from years ago, which is also very fun for me.

With that said, I’d like to thank my sponsors for the great support. TQ Racing Vehicles, Viper RC Solutions, Protek RC, Airtronics, VP PRO USA, Agama USA , Byrons Fuel

Results:

TQ and 1st place in Super Stock

3rd place in 4wd Modified Buggy

5th place in 2wd Modified Buggy
