The filing allows a smaller spur gear to be used, larger pinion and a better fdr.
To give you an idea the local 21.5blinky class is running low 19sec laps (19.3/19.5)
The VTA class is also running 21.5 blinky, and running low to mid 20sec laps (fastest lap 20.249 last tuesday)
We have to get out fdr's close to our 21.5 blinky class cars to be competitive

All this talk about spools I may try it but how about a slipper spool is there anything that fits like on the TC6?

Does anyone know if you can use the standard shocks with the Tamiya rear tower mod?

I put the ball diff in my fgx and really like the way it feels. Of course that is a rwd chassis. I haven't tried the diff in the s yet. If you are racing then stick with the spool up front. I'm using the gear diff with the aluminium cups and 80wt shock oil in the back and it works well.

Would an FDR of 5 sound right for a 13.5 brushless?

As far as the biggest gear tat fits stock, I think its either a 27 or 24, I can't remember. Either way, its not that close to what you would need for VTA.

Are you running at Sir Gooney's in Knoxville? If so I would keep 48p if I could, because the spurs get eat up up there. Me and my brother, the beave both run Sakuras, and we were rolling in at a 3.5 FDR. I am at a 87/47 64P and so is he. Motor temps in the 150's on a hot day with a barely worn in drive train. Some go as low as 3.38 and some are around 3.8, depends on style and setup. Thebeave won with 24 laps last weekend with a virtually box stock car with only the vertical mount and spur gear changed. Its a fun car to run up there.
