Electric Rally Kits...what are my options

Im looking for an electric rally kit. I have been looking at the HPI rally car but it looks like its being discontinued . Ive also been looking at a TC3 racer kit and adding on the AE rally conversion kit...anyone have experience with these? I have seen the tamiya TB-02 chassis cars namely the 2003 WRC impreza bodied one. How great is this tamiya chassis for mild off road conditions? I like how the HPI car has great dirt protection...and the HPI and the tamiya are around the same price while the AE will cost me more.

For those of you that have used these cars please share your experiences. thanks in adv!!

I had both the HPI and Yokomo rally cars but I think they're both discontinued. Neither could take the "big" jumps on the offroad track but they could handle anything else. My yokomo rally car with a stock motor could keep up with mod buggies on the track:sneaky:

It looks like tower just ran out of the HPI rally cars today:( Ill check out the yokomo.

thanks

My cousin got no problem on his TC3 rally convertion kit...Its simply like a plug n play sequence.. It also does great jumps considerring you change the bigger stroke on the shocks then its done!! Leaping in the tracks..

I'd like to get a hold of one too. I might try to convert my RS4 into a rally car. Are the parts alone still availible?

Well if you have the origional RS4 Sport then all you need is the slightly longer shock shafts. Or use longer shock ends which probably came with your kit. Then just order one of the underbody trays and have fun!!!

As far as the TC3 goes, you don't need the ralley kit, just remove the droop screws and unscrew your shock ends a little. Maybe the ralley bumper too.... This is how the team origionally ran the TC3 for ralley....

RALLY CARS!

A sealed drivetrain is a must
for tamiya:
Use the TL-01 and set it up just right, its far lighter than the TBseries of cars, but your limited to using stick packs.

TC3 is okay but using the XXX-s will give you a more competitive car!!!!! Making it XXX-Rally!!!!

look here on how to do it!

after doing your project--post a picture of your rally car jumping like this!!!!

I have a very old HPI Rally, one thing nice about it was the enclosed cockpit that protected the motor, battery, speed control & belts.

Hey guys, I think im sold on the AE TC3 kit ,I will also probably go ahead and buy the rally conversion and 200mm body. Unfortunately I must sell off some of my old pan-car stuff to fund this rally project.

Thanks for the help

I love rally cars. I turned my xxx-s into a rally car and it is the MOST FUNNEST car i had ever driven. All I did was buy the hpi perelli (ignore the wrong spellig) tires and raised the car about .5 inch. the tires slip on the hard packed mud track i go to but it's still fun. And yes I am nutz, I launched it off the triple and it doesn't break.

Here's my newly acquired AE Rally TC3! :)

My review:
Handling: Great handling even with the stock kit tires. I will probably get some of those HPI Pirelli's later on. I recommend getting a stronger servo and not using a cheap standard one.
Quality: All parts are top notch and fit and finish is good
Durablity: Very durable car. Launched it off some 15 stair steps and still managed to land on all fours.
Off Road Ability: It can handle a lot of obstacles except tall grass and some other stuff. It's great on sandy surfaces. Note: Do not run in areas where there are wood chips or gravel, as this some will get jammed in the steering. I will make a lexan steering rack guard soon.
