What the best esc for Zero Timing Class

Which speedo do you run today for the Stock class? I'm guessing not a $200+ programmable speedo, correct?
My point is, it's not going to put a hurting on those that will need to downgrade and make it affordable for new hobbyists that are entering this arena.
Also remember, this is a one time investment.

at the last Nats held at NorCal, Speed Passion made an offer to provide both the speed-o and motor,(with 0 timing) available at a very reasonable price.
ROAR chose not to allow this because of possible complaints from the other manufacturers. was this in the best interest of the racers, or the best interest of the other that could have thier products used for this race??

I saved and bought a used Tekin RS and hotwire for $135 from here. I am all for new drivers to enter the hobby but IMO the stock class is to complex for a newbi. Some of the clubs around have a Miny or 18r class. Even though my club dosn't have a class like this I feel it is a great introduction to the hobby.
I'm an advocate to leveling the playing field and minimizing blow-outs. This hobby can get really expensive, very quickly. But you have to admit, a simple non-programmable speedo for a newbie is very cost effective long term. No need for laptops, iPad, iPhone, Android, programming devices, a dictionary, Internet Access, a buddy who's a rocket scientist, etc....lol

True. They have to start somewhere. My kid's still have their RC18R's (I used them as well...hehe). I upgraded their chassis to Exotek.

Maybe we can get manufacturers to hand out "Spec Label" driving skills as well? Are we forgetting that it still has to be driven, fast OR slow?
Everyone is STILL pointing to software this, or hardware that as the issue... and it ISNT.
Ok. How about this 'apocalyptic' thought...
... what would happen if EVERY ESC manufacturer decided RIGHT NOW that the only speedo they were going to offer was dynamic timing capable? What if each decided to produce only ONE speedo with NO 'spec' mode... and that is just how it is?
What if ROAR backed this, labelling all non dynamic timing speedos illegal? To ensure this in TECH there had to be NO blinking lights?
Would the racers pushing for no boost classes stop racing? Would this same crowd stop being ROAR members?

You mean like the way it was not to long ago prior to brushless?

There is a solution to this, and all of it may not be apparent to everyone here, but I'm sure it can be solved. The first mandates in the ROAR rulebook are to ensure fair competition and to ensure that the best effort is made to keep racing affordable in the classes that are intended to be affordable. I know there are some veterans of the stock class that may not like this, but the rules can't cater to the top few percent of racers in a class that exists to be an entry point for new racers. If the barriers to entry are too high, then something needs to be done to change it. Everyone always agrees that it's critical to make RC racing inviting to newcomers, but the vocal minority are the first to scoff at EVERY idea to accomplish that objective.
Randy, you can reach me at the address listed on the ROAR website.

There would be three of you left racing your $2200 stock class cars wondering where everyone else went. ;o)

I'm kinda going with DaveW on this. Driver Skills and Handling/Setup Knowledge. You can't SPEC that, period. The fast guys are going to be fast no matter what you "decide" SPEC is. They can hustle the thing around the track even if you power it with Dino the Dinosaur. Drivers that take issue with that can really do one of two things. 1) Go off and start whining in mamby pamby land. 2) Dig in, become an avid hobbyist and try to learn something - figure it out for yourself, learn how to compete. That is the elusive goal the motivates the mass of us intermediate level club drivers. We don't need newbies that want to spend a few hundred bucks and run with Kenny Lambert or Mike Blackstock. They can bite me, bunch of jackwagons!
ROAR fuels the fire on these issues every year. They can't determine an agenda in June or July and stick with it for a season? Their always jacking something around 2 months into carpet season that causes racers to change plans and buy something different. Wouldn't seem so hypocritic if they would at least stick with something, anything. If they want to let the mamby pamby's dictate all the class rules, fine. Just do it before the season starts and leave us to race for the season. That would save money for everybody!
SPEC mode, software changes, Dymanic Timing, Turbo, No Turbo - I don't care what you pick. Stick a roasted pig on top of the antenna for all I care, the fastest guy in our state is gonna be the same guy no matter what you hang on the class. If you want to whine about it, that's your choice. Won't make you any faster! I think I'll be trying to learn something so I can get a little closer. First step - learn how to drive!

...and here's one of the three.
P.S. These are only under consideration for next year.

What kills me are all the tough guys out here who are telling everyone how hard it should be. Guess what, that does not work anymore.
I'm not a very good driver and not very smart either. However, stupidity allows me to soldier on in the face of adversity. Over a long enough time, i have built up enough mistakes that I don't make them as often. So I do ok sometimes at the races.
Most people are not going to stand for this. They aren't as dumb as I am. They vote with their feet.
To attract new people, there needs to be a fairly simple point of entry. This is the same thing as telling somebody off the street that you have spent "thousands" on your model car. They will say thanks and continue on their merry way, turned off by the price at the expense of an ego boost.
