Personal attacks are not cool. Are the people who are lashing out at me represent Xray? Since many of you have Xray, RCAmerica in your sig, I'll take that as a yes. I don't think I'm breaking RCtech rules by giving my opinion about products.
Let me ask you guys this, how much better do you think the new car will handle against say the new HPI, AE, and Tamiya cars? Honestly? What sets this car apart from their competition? So the handling will be far greater than all the other cars? What's left? Sorry, but it's going to be epic for sure. Many T3 owners are already talking about upgrading their current T3 with a few parts. Xray must be hurting since they are really starting to cut costs. It's just too bad. If the price reflects what I see then I have no issue with it. Just sucks you have to buy everything as an option part. Plus the cost of a front diff if you race carpet?

Is it me or is XRAY just coming out with vehicles way too frequently? Why can't XRAY just offer the new features of their updated versons of their cars and sell them as option parts and come out with a new car every couple of years? Kind of like Associated. I have total respect for XRAY, but I think that this phenomena is a bit crazed, if you ask me.

To be honest, I just can't believe that Xray kept the servo in this position...
It seems that the space for electronic is even smaller than before !
I'm convinced (and have some proof) that with a 90° oriented servo (like Tam 416, Yok BD5, HB TCX), the natural airflow between speedo and motor is majorly improved. I mesured 5 up to 10°C less on the motor with this architecture on my modified T2008 with TCX steering post (see Xray T3 page 188).
I just don't understand why Xray doesn't follow this winning trend...

I don't think xray considered airflow when designing the servo layout. I think they were probably more concerned with balance and chassis width. The servo sitting at 90deg forces you to have a wide chassis or some sort of brace sticking out to attach the servo to, plus the servo only has so much room before it hits the belt hence tamiya's fancy L shaped servo mount. Having the servo in the orientation that Xray has for the last few models seems to work well and considering the trend towards a more narrow chassis it makes even more sense on this new kit. The next step as far as i can see will hopefully be lo profile motors, so we don't have to have this hunk of metal hanging so far off the chassis.

I know the original T3's had an issue with the suspension arm mounts pulling through the chassis in a hard hit, and I've been known to have some hard hits...
Since it doesn't seem to be in the 2011 car, is it worth getting the lower arm [rear] suspension brace [302048-O] with the car and building it that way, at least for me starting out with the new car? Looking everything over that I can get my hands on, that's really the only optional part I really see myself "needing", at least until I feel confident enough with the car that I won't have a hard hit without help.
I understand that brace will stiffen up the rear of the car a bit, I'm sure I can tune around that, if need be.
Broken parts at some point or another are a fact of life, but I'd prefer not to break a chassis plate, they're expensive.

Been doing it 25 years as well...
and I agree, I'm impressed with Xray on quality, fit and finish, but I tend to put Xray at a higher standard because of that reason. I'm even willing to pay more for it and I don't want them hold back on material costs.
You are missing the point....X-Ray is quality. It's that simple. You buy the car...it's an easy build. Everything just fits perfectly. I've built many cars in my 25 yrs racing r/c cars and nothing compares. Also when your done...the car works. The only optional part I have on my car is a rear gear diff. Not really sure if the other parts help...but this is a hobby..something to play with. You spend money if you have it...and if you don't you won't. X-Ray hasn't cut costs when their product is top of the line stuff.

If you are going to "optimise" your design to be more like your rivals, at least "optimise" it with an understanding of why it works!

More importantly, they have totally missed the benefit to the steering geometry of the horizontal steering servo. The Tamiya and Yokomo both mount the steering link in the middle of the steering rack so you have even motion on both sides.

Personally I like the new position as it moves even more of the weight towards the centre of the car.

Bulkheads new and taller
Reading thru the info on the xray site it says all new bulkhead design. The pictures show much more clearance between the top deck and the battery.
So am I correct in assuming that the top deck is now higher? ie the bulkheads are taller than the 2010 car?
---- so one would have to surmise that there is no possibility of an upgrade kit for those looking for that as an option.

I'm assuming they are normal T3 bulkheads because they are listed on the list as T3 (not T3'11 like the carbon chassis parts), but you'd have to cross reference that list with the T3 parts list to see what has changed (and see if a T3 can be easily brought up to T3'11 spec).

The real change I saw on Drews proto car was chassis, top deck and steering. He did have the black alloy units but the production will be plastic.
If you have a hardly used T3 then just buying the items I listed would be a less expensive way to go. But if you have a bunch of time on your T3 then a new car would be ideal.
This is another revolution in the T3 platform. The current car is still good and is a winner still.
I like the way the new chassis layout is for lipo with the cell bumps

Camber links testing?
I've seen several pro cars with the camber link mod. Seems some testing has been done. Knowing if I could get the features I want from Xray should would help me make my choice. I hope we hear something soon.
