I can't vouch for the orion motor as i've never run one but the D3 is quicker and less prone to getting hot than the LRP x12.
Loving them so far!

These motors are excellent. To reinforce what was said earlier, they are much better than the LRP X12 which tends to get hot and lose rip. With proper ESC settings, the D3 has nearly no fade and runs super cool. High recommended. If you liked the Duo2, you will LOVE D3.

What are you running, stock spec or boosted 17.5? What ESC? If you are running Tekin, I can send you my setup to get you started.

Using SXX V2 4.4...No problems with the esc..I purchased a new D3 17.5 express..and dead on arrival..I tried it on 3 different esc's..and no good..A friend at the track yesterday said that some D3's had some issues and just wanted to know if there is a fix before I send it back..I have contacted Amains and Express motorsports..
What seems weird..I thought that buying an Express, is that they are indavidually checked and ran..If that is true..why is mine dead on arrival?

Hey Mike,

Go on the Team forum section here and there is an Express threat that John Tag (Owner) visits daily. He is a good guy and will be more than happy to help you out and get the problem rectified. Only reason I say post something there is he may not see it here. I know he has been on Vacation in FL last week and maybe this week as well so it may be a few days before you get a reply.

Has anyone used a D3 4.5 in a TC? If so what gearing does this motor like on a medium sized track?

Open for thoughts on this one.

Recently ran at a very LARGE track. Straight is approx 60-70 metres in length.

D3 set to 0 timing

Tekin RS Pro settings -

Turbo - 16
Boost - 55 (Max)
Ramp - 3
Timing - 95
Delay - 0.02
Start - approx 3500
End - 18001 approx
Gearing - 6.82

Car could punch from corners well, but lacked a little top end, not much, just enough though to have cars pull about 1-2 feet by the end of the straight. Motor ended average 80 degrees after 5 minutes, plus 1 warm up lap. Ambient air temp 19 degrees.

Any ideas on how to have got more from the top end ? as mentioned punch was excellent and didnt fade, but top end just wasnt there.

Your turbo delay and ramp rate are killing your setup. Change your ramp rate to 2.0, delay to .15 and run the car.

You have too much timing too soon. Dropping your boost to 50 from 55 will also help.
