Tamiya TRF417

The setup looks really normal to me... only the shock oil is a bit softer then the "stock values", that the most of tamiya racers are using.
Springs Tamiya White and Blue, Stabilizers Medium and Soft is the typical tamiya basic ? ...

About the soft oil, wasn't the temperature quite low at Yatabe, so that would usually also mean slightly softer oils (even if maybe not that soft)?
Sealed top? dampers?

Yes well underway but going a bit slowly as i have too much else to do right now.
Notes:
- lower deck is just 90mm wide, upper deck seems narrow or with less material as well but have not checked
- new weights, especially center 15g with TRF marking is super nice
- new motor mount is nice, don't think we'll ever use the center connecting piece
- no need for any shims between bulkheads and upper clamps anymore
- seems they changed bearing supplier (teflon shield more white and they seem better oiled)
- new kingpin (upper) has the ball 1mm closer to the threads (thus 1mm lower), manual shows to use 0.5mm under it
That's about it so far I think. Bonus springs white and blue included again (blue and yellow std). New setupsheet has a lot of info (much improved)...you can see that on my blog.
Have come a bit further than this already but no pics...

edit. Damn, kentech told almost the same story while I was writing...
I got my 417X on tuesday and itīs almost finished. Nothing that special on the build, no real differences in the basic stuff. Only thing I noted was that the upper ball on front hub is about 1,5-2,0mm lower than in the old 416/417. Instructions tell to use 0,5mm shimm under it and itīs still about 1mm lower than in the old car. The shocktowers are really heavy duty, almost no flex at all. For the connecting piece on the motormount, there are holes on the chassis that you use to screw the piece tight, after screwing the center bulkheads to the chassis so you dont tweak the car. It doesnt self center. Chassis is 4mm narrower than the old one, itīs now 90mm.
Btw, the metal battery holders have cool etching...

Yatabe was pretty cool, but no more so than some places I've been too with thicker oils. Everyone seemed to be going lower on oils though, apparently the Yokomo guys run softer on carpet than asphalt, which is a bit alien to me in all honesty.
I did try that setup and it was pretty good, but I found it a little too much for me, and had a tendancy to end up on it's roof. Did set my fastest laps with that, but lost consistency so ended up going back to a slightly more convential front end, with 0.5mm under the front blocks, and outside hole on the arm (although given how many issues I had after I probably shouldn't have bothered), but keeping the 1D/1C and 1mm axle spacer... car felt pretty good with that.

Yes, no hole drilled in the cap. Should also mention that he was using the split motor mount and 417X top deck.
Edit - Argh... I spotted a mistake on the sheet, should have been long (hole3) camber links F&R. will correct that tonight.

caster block
besides the xray mod, what other caster blocks are more robust than the standard 417 caster blocks? Did I hear from another tamiya tourer fits, if so what part numbers are they?
edit.......is it this, 51293 from ta05 IFS ?
or any aftermarket alu ones worth getting?

The new 417X metal battery holders do look nice, but it looks like they also weigh a lot more than the 417 ones? From looking at the pic on Stilo's post, the 417X ones weigh a combined total of 42g. Those on the 417 only weigh ~15g.
My 417 is only a few grams over the 1350g minimum weight limit at my club, and thats with all 3 of the standard 417 battery holder in place. I wouldn't really want to add another 25g, plus maybe more weight on the electronic side to balance the car, if I change to the 417X...
