I see Tamiya has returned to the old style thrust bearing (as opposed to the prebuilt). Are you guys building and racing with the thrust bearing included with the kit, or are you using the a pre-built unit.
If you're building the Tamiya thrust bearing per the instructions has anyone tried using ceramic balls rather than the steel balls? If so, what size ceramic balls are required?

I ran my 417 for the first time this past weekend. It appears that the front belt is touching/rubbing on the top deck (near the center pullies). I noticed a rubberish residue on the top deck. Wiped it off and it came back. The kit is built per the instructions and the belt tension is set properly. Any thoughts?

I've done what an number of other people have mentioned here, just used some ceramic imperial balls I had lyaing around... nice and smooth. Almost a shame that I've pretty much gone gear diff exclusive!
