Just saying that the X-type shock rings are nothing new
Spec-R uses them X-rings now to get the gear diff leakage free and it works
Tamiya is comming out with them for the shocks but some one else beat them to it
The do work great and hold there own longer then the normal O-rings form what i have noticed.
Now we have to wait till they bring them out for there own gear diff.
Mine VII diff isn't leaking but hey, they need to work on something new 2 get something great even better

looking for a setup for a high grip carpet track for a 417x
what tamiya tires to use type a or type b

what spacers to use front, on top of the c hub, and the top where the alumnum diff holder is
rear spacer on top of the hub and spacer on top where the aluminum diff holder is

Hy!
Does anyone know if the double CVD´s are fit also the old EvoIV/415 C-Hubs?
On the pictures it looks like that the original c-hubs have more room for the cvd, so i think it could be an issue.

Went and did a shake down run with my christmas present, 417x, an I was pretty happy with the car. Easier to drive than I predicted. I changed a few things from the stock setup. Major thing being the spec r drive shafts and raising the front inner camber link.
I havent driven in 3 years so I'm not sure if my driving is just off but I felt like the diff oil was much too thin. First 2 mins were good then the car became harder and harder to drive for the remainder. It became unpredictable and sharp. Should I try a thicker oil? I was thinking 2000wt instead of the stock 900wt. Or can I fix this by changing something else?
Next time out I want to try a gear diff w/ putty in the front and some harder springs.
Also I have the old Aluminum steering brace from the 416 that also mounts to the upper deck. Can I use this without any problem? What exactly will I gain from it? Is it better than the carbon brace only connecting the steering posts? want to calm the front end.

Have you tried to gear lower? Isn't 17.5 usually gear in the range of 3.5 to 4.0?
What tires are you running?

Anyone know if it's possible to buy the trf417x lower chassis plate on its own as of yet?

Still, not such a bad result. Didn't have enough to challenge the front two, but was comfortably ahead of the rest, so third it was. Car wasn't great, but improved a lot during the day, and then found some more stuff that made it better still after racing!
Track was mega traction, tight indoor asphalt, and not helped by running very soft compound tyres, so traction roll was a big issue. Had to soften the car off to make it stable and let it roll, but still was a tendancy for it to fall over the front if I got too aggressive initially.
Anyway, setup is attached, major differences are;
Smokem FX chassis (loads of front end!)
Stiffening the car back up a little with non-cut top-deck and steering brace.
Softer shocks (carpet style)
Wider front (D/B, 1mm axle shims)
Long camber links.
In the testing after, I found Silver/blue to be a better spring combo, and going to 3.5mm on the rear wheelbase shim better as well. Was really struggling in the tight sections of the course, lacked mid-corner, basically making the car a little too stable. So, next time out, I'll be trying shorter links, and also going back to the flexy top deck... that is, after I play with the new toy

Past days, I finished mounting my 417X, and I'd found one problem.
The front belt, touch the inner aluminium servo mount and antenna post.
I'd shaved the inner servo mount to resolv the problem (about 1,5-2,0 mm).
I review all the mount points about central spur gear, rear diff and front spool without founding any mistakes, and shimmed them in the right possition like manual drive us.
And also, the upper belt tensor, is to centered and I must do a drill 1.5 mm to left about not touch the front belt.
Look at this photos.
Do you have this problem? Any ideas?
