Default MuchMore diff setting tool

Just a quick question. Are the diff rings different on the TRF417 as compared to the 416?

I want to get my hands on the MuchMore diff setting tool but want to make sure it will work with the 417 diff rings.

Thanks Greg G

Yep, 417 uses D rings. The tool doesn't work.

Am I right ?
Thanks
Honestly, the biggest changes I would make between carpet and asphalt would be springs, and maybe oil.
Starting setup for asphalt is HPI Silvers all round, with 450wt oil, whilst indoors it would be Tamiya white/blue, with 500wt oil.

Otherwise, I tend to leave the rest of geometry alone until I get to the track and see what it needs altering.

An interesting point is that I actually tend to alter the roll centre more when changing class, rather than indoors or out. With higher wind motors, I'll tend to run a higher roll centre for more corner speed.

HiH

I have the opportunity to purchase a TRF416x with a bunch of spare parts for $140 less than a new TRF417 with a few spare parts. I have never raced on-road so I will have a learning curve with both cars. Would you go for the older car at a lesser price or a newer car with the newer technology?
To be honest, whilst the 417 is the latest car (and I do believe is faster), you really can't go wrong with a used 416X. As you mention, your starting out in on-road, and the money you save on the 416 could be put towards other stuff (tyres?).
Both cars use the same suspension components, so all the usual spares will be available for a while.

What springs were you running? I used blue front and yellow rear. The car felt ok, just lazy in the corner. I cannot find the HPI silver springs anywhere

Ok thank you Ed

And just a quick question to anyone; the white/blue/yellow springs that come with the kit, are they white short or yellow short or blue short or just normal white ?
As the short version of the same spring are softer, so when I try and compare, I know which one im doing xD.
Thanks

I ran blue front and yellow rear with 450wt oil all around. I normally run blues all around. Just ordered some HPI silver springs though. What tires were you running?
