Stock TRF 417 dilemma. Throw money and Smokem parts at the 417 or get another 419.
Background: I just got a 419 for 17.5 TC to replace my totally stock 417 (no suffix). Wow what an improvement with just the kit settings and parts. I could never get the 417 dialed. Now the 417 is a 21.5 USGT and it still spins out and traction rolls.

So back to the dilemma. Just get rid of the 417 and get a second 419 for USGT or try some of the mods listed in this thread of four hundred posts.
Anyone compare a tricked-out 417 to a 419?
Which Smokem parts to make the 417 a good 21.5 USGT (good grip carpet)?

I'm thinking:
417MX chassis 81005 or 417-IIF 81009
417V7 Conversion 82011
Servo holder
or Tamiya hop-up part#42285

After posting this I looked up the Smokem and Raceberry conversions and can't find them for sale anywhere.

Before you give up on the 417 for USGT try Art Scrimo's setup. I'm having some luck with it...

Thanks for the link.

After research and seeing the discontinuation of some of these parts this is what I'm going to do to keep running my 417:

Cut the top deck in two places to match the Exotek
Use the split suspension blocks
Take off the CF piece between the steering link posts
Cut the motor mount into two pieces in-line with the chassis
Use the newer servo mount

Default Centre one way

Hi , I ran on high grip carpet and a short tight track.
I'm looking to get a centre one way pully.
what will this do for the handling of my car will I still have brakes?
it's a second hand car and touring cars are new to me.

Thanks

One way will mean 4WD when accelerating and RWD when braking.

Lots of oversteer. Can be helpful on technical tracks.

For fear of sounding stupid here because cplus knows his stuff...If I'm not mistaken, a CENTRE one way means no brakes. A front one way is as cplus described.

A front gear diff might help on a short tight track. Play around with the oils to find what works for you.

A Centre one way is the same as a front one way, basically you still have rear brakes and drive, but you can run a diff up front so you can have the diff effect on the front if you want to.

two different ways to skin the same cat - unless of course you placed the one way arrangement on the rear drive pulley!

Thanks for the reply s .
When I got my car the centre pully was damaged and so was the front belt.
I am having trouble finding the right size belt the only spear belts I can get are slightly too long .
the car came with plastic 18 tooth Pully Holder.
So I need to find a direct centre holder 19 tooth or I was looking at the centre one way I thought that might solve my problem and help out on our small high grip carpet track.
I know it's a oldish car but I did not think it would be difficult to find parts.
I live in New Zealand do you guys now of a good parts saplier that can send stuff my way.
Cheers

Parts should be readily available from a number of places. Examples include:
www.tqrcracing.com
www.rcmart.com

The part number for the 417 front belt is 51439 and from what I can tell, seems to be in stock at a few places. Postage won't be super cheap, but both of the places above ship to Oz with good reliability.

Phil.

18tooth pulley doesn't sound right to me. Pretty sure it is 19T stock.

Don't run different size pulleys either side of the spur either. You don't want to under/overdrive the front/rear.

Unless you're trying to set up a drifter
