The fan I got at the local race track was not in a good position as you can see from the first picture. I was worried it would jam into the tire (it only had about 1/4 inch of clearance) so I took it apart so I could switch it to a kind of side mount and bent the bracket to have the lower fan closer to the motor. I'm not sure if I'll keep both fans on or I may cut the one on the back side off. What do you guys think?

Hi,

I am pretty new on this forum, but I tried to read as much as I could :-). I can see everybody tries to be very helpful and very detailed. I just purchased my V5 and ready to assemble, however there are different stories about how to build up. I would like you to get your experience/opinion on the below questions, much appreciated :-)
1. Cement: per instruction you put cement everywhere (lower, upper deck, etc). What do you think on it? Keneth blog says just put on the lower deck, file the edges and leave other parts, if I remember correctly.

2. Gear diff unit II with metal bearing for front: Does anyone have instruction/video link how to assemble diff with putty 75 from Ride? I can see Jill video with oil. however I am not sure about putty filling.

3. new damper: this is very new to me, I only used old TRF dampers so far. Per manual I should make a little hole in the cup. By what tools did you do it and what can go wrong? What should I focus on not to break it.

To be honest, the manual is fine, everyone has our our own tips. The big one is not to ream out the arms, and try to build the diff with different O-rings and a little green slime.

CA personally I only do the bottom plate and the suspension towers.

I race my V5 on carpet with the shocks provided, they work really well and dont leak, I used to run the std shock with 0 rebound, but these shocks are easier to make 0 rebound if you dont drill the cap.

Do you exactly build damper as it is in the link? it appears should work very similar to normal trf damper except no oilsealing inside. Am I correct?

CN - do you round the edge or just simple put cement as it is described in the link.
O-rings, other stuffs for gear diff - where can I buy those? I tried to find it on ebay, with no luck...

Are the suspension mounts the same on the 417 and the 415?

They are close, but not the same. The widths and the letter designations are the same from the 415 style to the 416 style but the profile in the center of the blocks has been changed to accommodate belt clearance. Check out this link:

Yep I built them as per the link. The shocks work well with my set-up like this and the don't leak. Infact another guy has bought a set to fit on his older TRF as he is impressed with how they stay consistant.

The CA I apply with a cotton bud, it's very easy and it doesn't run. I never round the edge as my car doesn't drag on the surface when cornering.

The Kyosho O-rings are available from any Kyosho stockist, the Tamiya ones are only just released (they are the same, just a different label).
