It mentions that the F/R lower bulkheads are redesigned too. Anyone know exactly how its been redesigned? thought of converting, but it seems faster to just get the kit.

edit:
kentech posted the parts page of the manual. The upper deck does seem to sit 1mm higher. I guess they really did copy Jilles's setup.

Yes it seems they have. The top deck is 1mm higher and the bulkhead clamps are 0.5 higher at the camber links. The motor is higher so the chassis is less recessed - bad news if you want to convert the old car I think. This car is going to generate some grip!

edit: actually simple solution if you have the old car and want to use the new bottom deck - just space all your bulkheads up by 0.5mm

I gave the new V5 car a run today and I'm really impressed. Compared to the X it is a sharper car, steering and changing direction better, it has more grip particularly on power and it carries great corner speed.

The track was not the best today, dirty from recent bad weather, but after a couple of packs the grip was reasonable. From kit setup I went with HPI silver springs and LTC body, and after the first run I went to the more regular 6/5 droop. I tried anti dive, and also laying the shocks down but I preferred the kit settings. I needed a bit more front bite, so I dropped the front camber link to 3.5mm (4mm on the X) and this was an improvement.

The only issue I had was with the new shocks which I built on a cold day (20C), and found today in very hot conditions (35C+) the oil had expanded and created pack in the shock which meant the piston would not fully compress. I bled the shocks again and it was fine, but it's something to look out for. This happens with regular shocks, but I think since the new shocks don't have a bladder they are less forgiving. On the track they feel very good, but I think that even with 400 oil they are a bit heavy for low grip with the 2 o-rings.

Just for fun here is a pic of my TRF family:

It's the smokem mx chassis. Very similar to the 417v5, and in nice matte carbon

My cars are:
- 416 (LP chassis, WE top deck)
- 416X (smokem FX chassis, LP top deck)
- 417X (smokem MX chassis)
- 417X
- 417V5
and offroad:
- 511
- 201

My 416s are very close to my heart, I won my first event with my 416 and my only state title with my 416x. I kept them so I could put them on display, but I haven't got around to putting shelves up to do so

Hey Craig, I see that you got the smokem servo mount in your old car

Any issue with the servo mount losing trim once you hit a bump/ light crash?

I tried the CSO one before and it was terrible - slight bump on the track is it will loos trim (I don't use servo saver)

With the changes, I might need to replace both my old 417X since it might be a bit pricy to upgrade (Chassis + upper deck + all bulk head + motor mount)

Does anyone know the part numbers for the emulsion shock caps. Also do you have to run the new shock bodies for them??? I ordered shock caps from the 501 buggy but they do not thread onto the shock body I have which is a tamiya based shock. Just checking to see if I ordered the right caps and just need new body's now.

I had the same experience with the CSO mount but the smokem for whatever reason is more solid. With only 2 screws though there is still potential for it to tweak in a crash.

CSO floating servo mount is not design to be use on the stock chassis Cause the chassis screw hole is sloted and they will move pretty easy with slight bump.. Solution is drill another hole on the chassis so you have 3 screws holding it down walla problem solve..
