Hi all,

I have an second hand tamiya 417x. Now I was busy with the car and noticed that the screws in the geardiff are a little worn out.
Now I am looking for some new screws but couldn't find it at rc mart. Can someone help me find some screws? And does spec r screws also fit in the tamiya geardiff?

Thanks in advance!

I was wondering how many people are running a 417 on carpet. I just pre-ordered one but I am starting to see there are quite a few reviews saying the 417 is garbage on carpet and the 416 is better. I will be running half of the time on asphalt and the other half running on carpet.

Any feedback would be appreciated. Thank you!

The car will be fine and more than capable on both surfaces. Its hard to say how the new car will go however as to my knoledge no one has run it on carpet. Marc proved at the last ETS the car does work on carpet, although this was with a 2.5mm chassis and normal shocks. I would say at the next ets round they will be using the new car

At our club the 417 (original) is great on carpet. I've won the A final a fair few times. We don't cut the original mount, and run a gear diff up front. It was a little more difficult to find a good set-up over the 416we but once sorted it is sweet.

Hmm... I only ran the 416x on pavement but this car will straight up be fore carpet.. Does this car have a ton of steering built into it? and are you guys running HB springs on the car? when i watch a video of the trf417 looks like it does not rotate as good as say the BD7 does? Also where are all the US guys getting parts from and ordering the car from?

The 417 rotates a lot.. Thats the main issue, the car wants to throw its back end out more than the 416. On carpet that makes it a bit of a bugger to get settled.

I initially ran foams, the car was a nightmare compared to the Ta05ms (the best foam car since the original 415). But I eventually got it sorted and it was superb. We have now gone on to rubbers and I then had to dial more steering back into the car (Foams needed it dialed way back due to the amount of grip). The car rotates really well now.

This weekend I was at a regional style event, and considering I'm not the best driver in the world I managed 2nd in my class and got the fastest race time and laptime of the day with my 417.

Spares are easy to get, although in nearly 2 years of racing the 417 I have only broken a handful of cheap parts (C-hubs, Uprights) and replaced the suspension arms after a year just as they were starting to get a little loose. About 30 spares in that time is testament to Tamiya durability.

Really unless you are a worlds style driver all these top cars are good, its more about the colour of aluminium you like.

I'll also agree that the 417 does great on the rug. I started with Art Scrimo's 2011 IIC setup and have stiffened up the front suspension a bit (HB Gold Spring and 650cst oil) to gain rear traction. Also adding a .5mm shim under the rear of the front suspension mounts calms down the front end a lot. I'm no great driver either but my best lap time was on par with our typ fast guys time with his BD7.

As fars as spares here in the US either Speedtech or TQRacing are my go to sources.
