Red face HELP with materials for parking lot tracks.

A small group of us in Shreveport meet in a parking lot and race around cones.

What do you guys use that is easy set up (25-30min) for track corners and straights. Wood, PVC ??? Transponders are not used.

Thanks.

Over here in Jackson we use PVC, 2" inside, 4" outside. But we have heated and bend the pipe for corners.... We run 1 a month at the local Bass Pro.... Next race is June 9... Come over for some run and racing...

make sure to have a good outside wall wood,4in pvc for the infield check
with the fire deparment for old hoses they might want to get rid of most will give out old ones with holes use plowdiscs for corners and you will be set.also make the trip to Jackson soon as they have a great race program going.

Setup time is all depended on the layout, two of us can put it up in 2 hours, with help faster... We change the layout every time to make fare for the people coming in from out of town.... Plus it makes you get better learning to drive and setups much faster....

I would say wood for the outside but 2 inch pvc for the inside walls.

We are moving to a tapped down loop... They hit the scoring bridge no matter where you put it... 22awg wire will work fine, I have flat tape that we tried and it worked great, it is a bit pricy at 15.00 per race day.... 22awg should be a lot less cost...

our club has been there done that with the taped down loop.. the suspended one works better, you dont have to worry about peoples body dragging the ground and cutting the loop, it makes life easier.

did you run some 1/12th scale over it also?

as for the bridge you need to put some post up above about 4 feet and run a wire to hold the middle up It keeps it from saging

We use noodles I got from the dollar store at a buck a piece:

http://www.nepoolstore.com/images/NT...e_captions.jpg

and 3/4 inch 10 foot lengths of PVC pipes.

the pipes slip into the noodles, and I use small sandbags to hold them down where needed. duct tape where needed to hold noodles to pipe where they get hit alot.

a 80x50 track can be setup in about 1/2 hour

Use a rolling garbage can to store the sandbags and wheel it around to drop or pickup sandbags.

Cheap, and efficient.

Won't work to keep vehicles from striking spectators though. A car can jump the outside edges...but that's not an issue for us.

What works very well keeping the cars from hitting the scoring loop, is 25 lbs dumbells.... I place them 2 to 3 feet in front of the bridge poles and they do not hit the bridge... But it sure can tear up a car... so I'm looking for something else now....
