The only thing I can thing off for that issues, is the added resistance of the additional connectors and/or the 2s packs are heavier.

I think you might be right about the added resistance of the connectors. I ran a pair of Thunder Power 65C 2S and was pretty happy with the speed. Then I tried a Blue Lipo 4S 40C and went "wow", now we're talking........ it was a very noticeable difference. But I was still pretty competitive with the pair of 2S Lipos. I think the weight was pretty close between them.

What connectors are being used on the Thunderpower?

I'd suggest the 2650kv motor, that seems to be the sweet spot for most people so far. The Tekin stuff seems to be working very well with no DNFs that I know of. They don't seem to be running too hot either. I'm extremely happy with my Tekin setup so far, it's very smooth, has all the power I can use as I can keep up with anybody on the straights, and has been 100% reliable.

The Castle stuff also seems to be holding up well.

Something else I noticed from your photos. Seeing that you went with mechanical brakes I think you will need to upgrade the rotor and pads. That setup you have does not work very well at all, at least it didn't for me when I was running mine with Nitro power. To be perfectly honest, going direct drive and using electric brakes is the way to go. But, if you want to stick with mechanical brakes I'd suggest getting Ofna's special cut rotor part# 49009 and their special pads part# 36659.
Excellent info danketchpel! I appreciate it.

I use Tekin in other rigs and really like their stuff (plus Jim Campbell is a really nice guy who will bend over backwards for you if you have problems) so I was actually planning on going with the 2650 T8 and RX8 on this as well. Your comments sealed the deal. And good news on the 4s. I was hoping to hear that as well.

I plan on eventually converting to a single speed direct drive and using the motor as brakes, but all of this came with the kit, so I figured I'd try it out for fun first. I'll be sure to pick up the better parts.

Can you tell me what direct drive you used for future reference when I am ready to change it?

Thanks again for all of your info. It is very helpful.

I experimented with the motor braking as well, but when back to the mechanical for the main reason that I really think, once dialed in, will greatly benefit these big ol' cars in the turns. Motor braking locks all 4 tires up...not a whole lot of tuning other than making the brakes stronger or weaker. Fooling with the mechanical brakes, however, can help a pushy car rotate through the corners better...as I was able to get working (slightly) better in the main. I think if you have the ability to use them, try them.

whipnet: that setup looks pretty sharp. Liking it!!!

Did you use differential braking, ie front & rear rotors etc?

I believe so,

The last time I looked at it, Tony was running the TECHNOKIT conversion for his Losi 2.0 with the center diff, f/r brake disks/pads installed. I've yet to get to the "jedi" level, so I'll be sticking with the electric brake setup.

I used the stock Losi front and rear bias brake setup. Worked pretty good but I think the light center diff fluid didn't let me take full advantage of it. I'll be working on that soon...

NICE shot! Another podium finish for Team Nitronic.

So.... who's thinking a GT8 3hr team enduro might be a very cool thing?

The Team based 1/10th class Enduro Charlie ran in 2010 was an absolute blast with battery and driver changes every 20 minutes.

Hopefully we'll see one in 2011........

What's up guys. You have been holding out on me. I didn't even know that this thread existed. Anyways, I finally got to see the picture of me with my Third Place Trophy. I know. Why celebrate third place. Did you guys not notice who finished ahead of me. Not too shaby. Anyways, great race and did you guys check out the lap times. Nice.
