Default How to make a GT8

I guess this needs to be made into a sticky, so people stop asking.

1. It doesn't matter if you have a Hot Bodies, Associated, Mugen, X-Ray... There are no specific parts to covert an 1/8 scale buggy to a GT8.

2. The only real parts you need is for something to mount the body to the chassis and a set of tyres. A bumper would be nice

There are two brands that make GT8. Ofna and Kyosho. Those would be a good source to use for body mounts and bumpers. Losi L8ight dirt oval is another.

I'm running Kyosho body mounts and bumper on my Tamiya conversion.

3. Things to consider: buggy rear shock towers are pretty tall and so are the dampers. Springs are also very soft. Here you may want to run the front shock tower and shocks on rear; if possible. Otherwise, you may have to fabricate your own shock tower.

That's basically it!

I appreciate the info.. do you have any pics of your conversion? maybe a shot of how you modified the body mounts and front bumper to fit on your kyosho?

How much did those custom shock towers cost? did you have to have both original towers to give him to take measurements ? or did he already have the info and just made a hybrid tower ?

I drew an overlay.. bottom half was the Tamiya shock tower and upper was the kyosho tower. Cost I don't recall.. its been a while.. I still have the Kyosho towers, you are more than welcome to them to use as a guide.. have no use for them. Sending you a PM

as commented raman, basic parts are:

-body, body posts and bumper with dense foam.
-Quality tyres (SP, GRP, PMT, ...)

A good setup to start:

-Dense silicone oil in front diff (500000).
-Rigid axle (or 500000 oil) in the center diff.
-10000-15000 oil in rear diff.
-Ground clearance: 0.8 to 1.5 cm
-3 Rear toe-in
-1 front toe-out
-2 rear camber
-1 front camber
...

No, the opposite. You need more droop in front than rear.

Thanks for your point of view everyone, i am going for a dm-1, i am waiting to receive it from tower
