Progress update on my Mugen long wheelbase. I ended parting out an MBX5R to work with the Tekno MBX5T kit. Just too unsure MBX6 stuff would work. The steering system is the main problem....

Anyway a pic;

Looks like I will get to use the stock front tower, there's a nice spot for mounting holes to be drilled down lower. I will be using Losi L8ight bumpers and body mounts. The bumper needs to be modified a touch to fit into the original bumper slot. The rear shock tower will also be from a L8ight. I will only have to drill two holes to get it to work. It's uncanny how close some of the parts are. Went with Ofna DM-1 shocks. Love that they have optional lower eyelets that are longer. Going to help with getting ride height perfect.

I have an RX8 I need to pull from my 4x4sc (going Viper in that). I'm wondering what T8 to get? What kV? And I'm also open to getting a truggy long one. Too much power? This will be a track only car, no speed runs or anything. And a rather tight track at that...

I am also open to try a Thunder Power Z3r-8 motor if anyone thinks they're better then the Tekin's?

I'd go for a 2050-2250kv motor! If u decide on the 2250kv, u can easily tone down the torque by changing the throttle profile to a less aggressive throttle curve. Tekin ftw! They are so dependable and are very efficient!
I was thinking about trying a longer wheelbase setup to increase stability. Has anyone tried changing their wheelbase?

I am building one to launch the class in India. We have about 2 DM1s in India. More expected. I am converting my RC8. I will using a Orion 2050KV combo with 4S.

I am wondering what shocks you are running on the RC8? The CG is too high with OE ones. Will the DM1's rear shock fit RC8? I am going to use a Protoform body. Any suggestions for body masks?

A lot of people just limit their shocks from within the shock bodies with plastic spacers, but if u want a better alternative, purchase another set of front shocks for rc8 and use them in the rear! The DM-1 spec rear shocks are long and are just limited by set screws. The dm-1( 1/7) or Spec front shocks may work, but you'll have to worry about using the correct upper shock bushings. Set your ride height to 12-15mm and experiment w/ different spring rates. Also, use the set screws in the suspension arms to set droop/ travel. They may not be used much in off road but for on road they are a critical setting adjustent.

Well she's finally finished, and turned some laps today. Very impressed to say the least. Nice and stable, especially under acceleration and braking. If you want to get the rear around, just give a little bit more of either.

I ended up getting 2 motors, a Thunder Power Z3R-8 (2100kv), and the GForce 2200kv, that's in there now. Geared for 40mph, it's still way too much car for our tight track. Haven't ran the Thunder Power yet.

If anyone is interested in any specifics or how-to's, I'll be glad to help. I used mostly Losi L8ight parts, front bumper and support, rear shock tower, and rear body mount. Ofna DM-1 spec shocks (I am pretty sure the DM1 uses same shocks front and rear), and body posts. Kyosho GT2 foam bumper and of course the McLaren GT2 body. I am really unsatisfied with the foam bumper, I only had pictures to judge by, and it's too small. I will replacing it with a Ipanema warrior foam bumper.

I was sort of bewildered by how close some of the Losi parts were to the Mugen. The rear shock tower almost bolts on. I had to trim a tiny bit off by the diff, and then drill just 2 mounting holes. The other 2 mounting lined up perfect! On the front shock tower, the upgraded Mugen machined one, has a nice flat area to drill new holes, and then lobbed off the old mounting holes in order for it to clear the body.

Here are the pics. I have a short vid that's uploading.

VERY nice.... and inspirational!!! I need to get going with mine - which is a L8ight model at the moment!

I really think this is going to be a fun class! I have a Tekin 1700 motor that I use indoors off road that might be the ticket on the smaller tracks but I primarily race in Lincoln, NE and it's a big, open track so a 2200 is probably the ticket.

Thanks for sharing!
