We also got more 350Z bodies in for GT1.

They are already discontinued, we have more coming in next week, and they are all painted silver. There are about 25 of these left at OFNA.

This would have simplified things greatly for me last year (and the savings of $$) Even still, I love my conversion and the smooth as butter feel of the clutch and 2 speed.

Great to see this product though!! Thanks Bill.

Cool.

I bet with the addition of a 2-speed from the DM-1 Nitro (which should drop right in), and the Tekno E-Clutch, these are going to be sweet on the track.

here are links to those products as well.

yes, it is actually the official upgrade for the GTP2e, we just also list it for the DM1 as a full replacement. I have more coming in on Friday if you want to order one.

By adding a 2-speed to a GTP-2e
You would need to add a brake system, a servo for braking, and your radio will need to have the ability to mix for braking.
Because the 2-speed free-wheels there would be no braking ability.

I will rephrase my answer to....

yes, it will fit*

*depending on your setup other items may be needed, each model will be different. Knowledge of 2-speeds and brush-less systems is highly recommended.

How does the 2 speed actually work ? , you cannot use the motor for braking with it installed ?

The two gears ride on a one-way bearing. When there is enough centrifugal force the 2nd gear engages (this is adjustable) and 1st gear is idling on the one-way essentially. The one-way bearing causes the drivetrain to freewheel off-power or with reverse input, so yes, you need mechanical brakes with a 2-speed.

If you run mechanical brakes, 3rd channel throttle mixing is recommended, but you can also use a Y connector in a pinch.

With a 2-speed, you don't have front/rear brake bias like you would with a center diff, but it is still recommended to use brake discs on both diff outdrives to improve braking force and minimize brake fade. A good servo is required for braking a 1/8th on-road GT car since there is so much traction available, the brakes heat up pretty quick.

Using mechanical brakes will increase weight ~4-5oz and your setup will be a little more complex, but you will increase the durability and reliability of the drivetrain and your electronics (motor/esc). It will reduce heat on the motor/esc and usually increases run time (efficiency) as a result of less heat.

Mechanical brakes aren't for everybody, but definitely worth a try if you're curious. It's really easy to set up once you have all the parts. I won't run a GT8 without them .
