I'm looking to get into USGT and was hoping folks would share their opinions on ESC/Motor combos for this class.

A few local guys (self included) run Hobbywing justock esc and Trackstar 21.5. Lots of torque and under $100!

I picked up a hobbywing extreme stock and it works great as well.

I used to run an old Novak GTB and Ballistic 21.5T. The Ballistic doesn't have the KV as other 21.5s, but geared right it was a competitive motor.

Now that I've had positive experience with the Justock, I wouldn't hesitate to run one in combo with the Ballistic motor. I haven't given much thought to the Trackstar motors, but I'll have to check them out now. Price point is AWESOME!

There are a lot of cool bodies out there. This class is not as defined as trans am is simply because it is not trying to replicate an era. It is a little.more catch all. Maybe the the t2 rule should be better but the problem is if it is " is or ever was on the t2 list" it is hard to find that info going back much beyond a couple years. I don't want to stop people from running 4 doors but everybody knows a n Andy's stratus is not a body to use in this class.

All decisions of the race promoter or track owner are final.*

+1 for the TrackStar 21.5T, great motor... some say it's a re-brand of the Reedy Sonic. I've also been running an X-Car 120A ESC also available from HobbyKing and it's done pretty well for me too, where supposedly it's a re-brand of the HobbyWing/BrushlessHobbies ESC's too.

Only problems I ever had with the X-Car/HobbyWing ESC was trying to run it in Open Mod with a 3.5T motor, I could never figure out the right gearing and burned up a couple ESC's... had no temp problems with a 4.5T motor which I think is about the limit for this particular ESC.

Out the door combo for under $70 is hard to beat, and my car seems to have the same top speed as most other brands on the track at our club:

@TC3, I was a bit dismayed when I asked them if it was air-conditioned and they said "no". I have a window unit I might have to bring with me!

Hey guys, Wanted to mention I just posted 2 Lexus LFA bodies I am getting rid of (bought them by accident for IIC Spec GT), and since they are a body used in USGT I wanted to point you guys to the thread. Getting rid of them for cheap and figure the USGT folks would be interested.

Just FYI

@Bill, it looks like the 120A ESC is out of stock (shows -19), but the 80A one is in stock. I was wondering about opinions of anyone who has used the 80A model. With the low price, it's tempting to get both the 80A and 21.5 Trackstar AND put the 120A on backorder!

the 80A ESC will do just fine with the 21.5T, in fact I have even used a 35A ESC with that motor without any issue.

If you decide to place a back order, be sure it's on a completely different order, I've done that just to get some spare 21.5T's when they were on back order... I think I had to wait nearly 2 months before they came back in stock if I'm not mistaken.

Not saying that it will take that long for the 120A ESC's to come back, but there is a possibility that they may get discontinued too.

I recently bought this ESC to test and it may soon become a replacement, but I am not certain one way or the other:

I can't vouch for this ESC as I haven't installed it my Hyper TT yet, but that's the car I plan to test it on with a 3674-2800kV motor

Bill beat me to the response. BTW, here's the 45A version (same rating as a HW Justock):

$60 HOBBYWING JUST STOCK AND TRACKSTAR 21.5, this will give you the most bang for the buck....I ran the combo to a P2 qualifying position at a club race after not running VTA for two years. $100 for the pair.
