USVTA/USGT
thanks again for the info guys.
We ran the old bodies because of the time, we just don't have the other bodies ready to go yet.We basically converted extra VTA cars in 3 days at this point. Our track doesn't currently run this class a few of us are putting them together for the Ft.Wayne USVTA and "SCALE" nats. We did weigh right at 1460 with both cars.
I find a few things interesting in the post . When i compare lap times of the same people in both classes (try to compare apple to apple) in F1 larry's post it looks like .2 sec is the difference in the 2.
I also find it very interesting in orcadigital post that the USGT cars have ALOT more gear in them compared to USVTA ? I have my FDR at 3.7 and motor timing at 30 deg. (ballistic) . my car wasn't any faster than the VTA cars with same FDR in the straight , even with the bigger motor. I don't know just feels flat in the straight, even though good pep off the corner.
Friday we will be racing them so i will turn up the timing and also try some different FDR (like 3.4) and see how that works out with the USGT body.

Timing will help for sure, I generally run around 40 degrees, but remember, more timing adds more heat, so I'd try just a timing bump first, then small gear changes.

We actually saw a much larger difference in lap times between VTA and USGT. Track is pretty fast, indoor high bite carpet. USVTA best time is a 10.9, with an average top 5 driver running 11.3 or so. Top USGT time is a 10.1, with averages 10.4 or so, again for the faster guys. 17.5 TC Blinky runs high 9's average with a 9.2 best (best I have seen was 9.5, but I am told the 9.2 happened).
Most VTA running 3.8 to 4.1, USGT running more in the 3.0 to 3.4 range, and 17.5 TC varies a lot on motor, but 3.8 to 4.5.
Oddly, we have actually found 21.5 powered cars to be closer to 17.5 TC then to VTA in overall laps and times, but seems to be a nice step in between both.

VTA fast lap of 11.9 avg 12.2,
USGT fast lap is 10.95 avg 11.3
17.5 blinky sedan fast lap 9.9 avg 10.2
VTA FDR 3.6 to 3.3 for 25.5 Ballistic 45°
USGT FDR 3.2 for D3.5 & Trackstar 21.5
17.5 FDR 3.8 to 3.6 various motors
So you can see we are about 1 sec diff per lap for each faster class so it is working out good for us. One thing to notice is the HPI X-pattern tires may be larger in diameter than you usually run, that can affect your gearing.
Early on I geared my 21.5 at a 3.7 FDR and it was no faster than the VTA 25.5 cars and would get very got. But geared to 3.2 and the 21.5 came alive while the temp dropped. They just seem to have so much torque they must be geared up to get the speed out of them. (on a very open high speed layout)

USGT VS USVTA lap times ?
Our track results have been similar on a med grip indoor carpet track about 90'x 50'.

thanks again for everyone's help.

We don't have enough to split them, and actually I think it makes the racing better.

We had 2 complete USGT cars run friday night. One guy went to 4.4. FDR .Our track is 60x30. His car was fast power wise but had some handling issues, which are now corrected. My gears didn't come in so I ran 3.7 with 45 deg timing. My car had alot more punch and slightly more top end.
All 3 cars look great and bring a different look to our track.
We are having a "King of the Road race March 9th.
the normal classes are
USVTA
Outlaw VTA
17.5 rubber ..blinky
1/12 17.5..blinky
If we have 7 commited guys for USGT they will have trophy's (plaques) for the class.
BATTMAN said he's coming...SWEET !!

Yes.
We had our first USGT race at Hotslots in Urbana, IL this past Saturday. Unfortunately my servo broke during practice and I was unable to race. We only had 4 of us total, but had several people interested in the class. Hopefully it pics up interest while we continue to grow the scale classes (USGT, VTA, F1).
