Yep, I'm a big fan of the USGT tires - one of the main reasons I run the class. When I decided to get back into on-road, I decided against 17.5 TC when I saw all the different tire sets the drivers bring with them to a race. In USGT I typically bring 2 sets, an older set to practice on, and a newer set to race on.

Sorry pal, I've been racing long enough (over 30 years now) to know that this is OFTEN true, but no where near always. I'm old enough now, my vision and reactions are decidedly on the downward spiral, that I don't kid myself that I'll win. But when all I change is motor (on the step up to the $120 Motiv, etc, motors) and suddenly I'm finishing on the same lap as the leaders rather than being lap-plussed it's the motor.

Of course the $150 Team Scream (and now others) motors showed up within months (seemed like weeks) of me stepping up and I'm getting lapped again. Go figure.

I'm not saying that buying a $150 motor will make me win (or even compete for the win)...it won't. But in my (and many other racer's situation) it keeps me "in the hunt" rather than being a moving chicane plus/minus 5 minutes into a heat.

I'll reiterate what Myron said a few posts back and that is that I can't wait until ROAR adopts coil resistance values for the other motor classes as they did with the 25.5. I'm not sure if they're planning on doing so, but IMO, I think it would bring more parity back to all the "stock" or "spec" classes be it 21.5, 17.5 or even 13.5. I know it's working for 25.5 based on what I've seen in our 25.5 TC class.

Sure, there were guys who bought almost ALL of the latest ROAR-approved 25.5 motor to figure out what works best for our track. But once they did, others simply bought what the other guys figured out. Ended up being a $90 motor.

This is in process, and will hopefully be passed within a few weeks. But sometimes weeks turn into months...

I think there would be resistance to the startup of yet another TC class locally.
but here's something to add

HPI vintage tires have had supply issues for roughly a year as well - so that probably added to the demise for VTA at your place as well

true...patients dont play well with RC racers....we want it now, or Ill flip to something else...which is fine. But I really believe that USVTA is the BEST class and on the rise, with new bodies, tires, and motors....it just takes away the headache of the other variables and lets racers work on laps and setup...and Im hoping USGT will follow the same pattern...hit the 21.5 motors with the rules on 25.5, and see what happens

and yes, I tested just about all the 25.5's I could get my hands on...and ROAR did it...you still have some differences, but I think you can win with any of them....cheap shot...GET THE REEDY POWERED!!!!...sorry brand loyalty lol

are you making this comparison on the same track on the same day with just the motor change?

There is always the variable that you just happen to drive better and traffic was not as bad on the leaders.

I have run against guys who spend the top $ on the latest and greatest motors, who will send me the motor analyzer number to show me how fast their motor is then I still see them finish in the same spot as they did before spending all that money.

Have you ever put your GT body on your VTA Chassis and see how Cool GT cars look with good looking tires

For people to say that great equipment doesn't matter they are just fooling themselves and trying to convince you.
I dont need to take a example from RC racing but full scale racing.
Valtteri Bottas drove for Williams before. I think last year one podium for third .
Now he races for Mercedes ,I think he has won a race this year and 5 podiums

I always wondered why I've never seen a buyout rule in club racing, like anyone else in the class can buy your motor for $50 and you have to sell it. I guess logistically it's just easier to enforce a spec motor, and since so much of stock racing is wrapped up in chasing down minute advantages nobody really wants to go as far as spec rules. I'll worry about it more when I'm running full heats with no driver errors.

If I ever get lucky enough to get a good motor off the shelf , I'm hanging on to it.

Or I can just wait for "That Guy " to buy that Trinity Certified Plus ,Team Scream motor or better yet wave a $50 at that Team Guy .

Because I don't care, I'm not selling you my motor just because I beat you

Well that's the point...if people don't like getting beat by someone who spent $150 on a stock motor, a buyout rule ensures nobody would ever buy a motor valued higher than the rule because they would lose it as soon as they tq. But we don't get rules like that because people don't actually want stock to be "spec", we like stock to be about speed secrets, cool parts, and complaining.
