thanks for the reply Rob. My "level the playing field was a reply to Travis S post where he said the "spec tire would do that. Sorry for the confusion there.
I also appreciate the effort to find a useable cheaper alternative. that's great, but why does it then need to be Mandatory.aka "spec". Why couldn't it be listed as a "recommended" tire for the class in the rules ? What about the guys who already have 3-5 sets of the pevious allowed tires ? They are now wasted money.

The point is to get everyone to something that works and is not hard to get or overly expensive. Do you want to try 10 different tires? Or try to get something that is not being made but works well? One guy near us bought HPI Advans to try, and found out they were not very good, wore out fast, and were expensive. We have done the legwork for you... I can post the pictures of my tire box so you can see that I am out 10x the amount of money you are by implementing this rule.

There are tamiya rims that are 24mm with different offsets I have seen like +2.
For example:

#1 It's January 1 2014 for the tires. This is so people can use up the tires. If it's better for your area that you allow the current rules for a longer time, go with what works for you. Kevin K runs the Hurricane Midwest All Star series (10 years!) and he is allowing the current tire rule for his entire 2013/2014 schedule.

I like the spec tire rule, after all USGT is a spec class. Makes it easy to know what tire to use lol
Just dont spec the motors ... dont like whats happening in vta with now 3 allowed spec motors
Each track/club is different and will do whats best for its racers.

this isn't rocket science....
plan is to have a spec tire and insert for USGT as of 2014, Jan 1st...Im guessing the Summit Nationals at Ft Wayne will be open as that race is Feb, but that's Jeremy call...Im sure the Scale Nats in Chi will be Rides, as well as 2014 Southern Nats too...
For your club races Im sure the tires you have are fine till they run out...but that's your race director call....after adding up what I have in GT tires?....gee whiz...Im in...save me the $$$$

So I am assuming that the testing has been done for these Ride tires on carpet and asphalt? If they wear on asphalt like the X-patterns do I'm in on the spec tires. The HPIs are practically spec at my track (outdoor concrete) because of the wear and handling characteristics but are hard to get now and are a little expensive. This could save me a lot of money testing other tires.

I'm fine with a spec tire for USGT, however, I would be very disappointed if they are only available in 24mm widths. I used to run that width (Advans) and was always disappointed with the options I had, i.e. no where near the options available for 26mm tires.
I think it'd be great if the spec tire is available in 24mm and 26mm widths. Could be a fun tuning aid.

For the guys looking for more offset in 24mm rims you can always add wider hexes to your car as well. Most cars now come with rather narrow hexes with long axles that can easy take wider hexes.
