hey guys,

few questions about running rubber tires on carpet. i'm really new to the electric world and need to sort things out a bit.
1- do you apply traction compounds on rubber tires if running on carpet?
2- do you use tire warmer ?? if yes, what temp is normally used for front/ rear
3- do you apply Traction compound and warm the tires or one should only use one method??
4- if both are used, do you warm first or do you apply the TC and then warm??

am a bit confused here and any profissional help is highly appreciated.

1..Yes we do.
2..Yes some people do use tire warmers on carpet.
But for me, t- warmers are more beneficial on asphalt.
3..I put it on the donut and then cook the sucker.
4..Get a warmer that can warm the front and rear at different settings.
Like the much more one.
Front at 60 degrees
Rear at 80 degrees

1. Most commonly used traction compounds are, CS high, LRP carpet, and carpet Jack
2. Depending on your traction levels at your local track really, if it's a cold day, or low traction track then warmers are an advantage, but in most cases they're not really a help tbh
3. I would say always use traction compound, if you use warmers then always clean the tire first, something like motor spray etc, then apply the additive, then warm.
4. You ideally want to stagger the times for when you put the compound on, i.e. 20-30mins rear, 10-15 mins front,
as for temperatures, no more than 55degC, and always the sane temp front and rear.

Fine tuning your car with additive is very useful and usually will be the difference between getting traction roll and not getting it.
You can change the amount you put on the front too, like 2/3rds or half, always working from the inside, outwards.

The main thing is play about with different brands till you find one that suits your track, have a quick look at what the others are running.

hey guys,

thanks alot for the fast answer and the good advices, i see you don't agree on tires temp for front and rear?? so is it all 4 same temp or rear more than front and why??

when do you warm the tires? how many minutes before a run?? and how long do you keep the tires cocking?? Luke, i didnt get your point #4 below about the temp and time.

what tires do you guys normally run on carpet??
-low to mid traction?
-mid to high traction?

i hear alot about the sweep tires and the Jaco blues??

Luke, the track will be an indoor track so the air temp should always be around 22C-25C. do you think we need warmers or only the compound will do the magic??

Jaco blues are popular for handout tires and for a spec tire. They last a long time, but they are not always the best tire. Sorex in 28 or 24, RP30 (if you can get them) are usually better, but don't last as long. Generally, tires rated around 30 are good, but I have seen tires down to 20 run. Before everything was spec tires, sorex 24 or even pit shimizu 25 were common.

I rarely see anyone warm tires, even when it's 55 or 60F in the building.

Paragon GroundFX, Jack the gripper and now Trinity Sticky fingers are most common tire sauce here.

robk, thanks for the answer man. not sure what tires i may find locally, if not, ill order a set from each company and see which one is better, i have in mind, Jaco, Sweep, solaris and sorex. one of them should be better than the rest

I'VE been using the new SWEEP tires on carpet and they seem to work really well and wear well!! I've had one set last 3 race days before they were significantly worn. The 32p and 36p are AWSOME and relatively cheap---4 premount tires for $35.00 --- a good deal and they work great. Check out their website.

It basically means, put the Additive on the rear tires between 20-30 minutes before the run, but do not put any additive on the front tires until 10-15 minutes before your race. When you apply the front additive, put another coat on the rear, as most carpet spec additives evaporate after a while.

With regards to warmers it would more depend on the traction levels of your own track rather than air temp, obviously unless we are talking 10degC or less lol.

For 21degC I wouldn't worry too much about warmers, as said before, do a couple of runs with out and see how you get along...

hey guys,

back to the compund questions,

i just got a bottle of Sticky fingers and its not sticky at all its like water, is it normal or did i get a bad bottle??

when you apply it, how many layers or rounds you do on the tire??? just one round is enough or more than that?

I don't know of Sticky fingers additive, but most additives are more of a watery compound than something gooey so it sounds ok to me.

if its in a tin, i've found that a 1" brush will be a good way to apply it evenly
Just one round is usually fine, enough to make the tyre look shiny, if it starts to drip off the tyre you'll know its too much, you'll soon get to understand.

Excess additive can cause wheelspin if it's left on the tyres, so have a towel or some tissues to hand just in case

as for tyres, in 13.5/27t ive always liked the consistancy of the sorex 24.

paragon ground FX has been outlawed at almost every indoor track in the us

it has been replaced by FXII but most racers use eather jack the gripper or stick fingers

thanks guys,

as for tires, i'm gonna run sweep EXPs 30 and 36, a friends shop just got them and i will run them. sticky fingers is all i have and to get traction compound to Kuwait, its a bit of a hassle. plus not many sites ship them by air.
