Since your buying a 1/12th scale car, odds are your not bashing it (since they're not exactly good cars to bash with), and in a race environment reverse isn't required.... so no you don't need it. I'm sure the reverseing Quantum models work great, but I've never tried them first hand.

on the subject of esc's for 1/12, is it okay to use a 9 or 10 turn motor on a futaba MC330 (13 turn limit) since we're only using 4-cells? or will i fry the esc? im guessing that since the esc is rated at 13 turns for 6-cells, it will be okay to use a lower turn motor with fewer cells anyone here tried this before? thanks for any info

GM Racing, LRP, Novak, KO PROPO and Keyence are all good high performing dependable ESC's, it just depends on how you program them for what class you are racing.
GM racing SX9
LRP quantum and quantum2
Novak GT7
KO PROPO VFS-2000(Tamiya and Hara have ESC's that are the same model as this just sold under their name)
Keyence v-zero extreme
If you plan on racing stock then stay away from GM Racing esc's and not because they are not good but because they are fixed freq. esc's suited for tire smoking modified racing. LRP's are adjustable for both(stock and mod), Novak's are adjustable, the KO and clones are adjustable but only with their external unit(sold seperately or as a combo package with the esc) but I could be wrong and they could have user stock/mod profles programmed into them choose from. The Keyence is cychably adjustable straight off the esc from 55T stock lathe racing to 6 singles: )
