help with stripped screw...
 

hay sorry guys I dont know ware else to post this but I have a stripped screw on my cyclone tc and I need to know how to get it out :sweat:

I tryed putting solder in it and heating it up while the allen was in it but I dont wana runnin my car :)


any suggestions :)

Two ways to skin it, Kyle.

#1 - Get a Dremel tool equipped with a cutoff wheel and slot the screw so you can jam a flatbade screwdriver in there and get the screw broken loose.

#2 - Use a drill with a drill bit that's slightly larger than the shaft of the screw to ease the pressure off the screw.

Either way, be careful....I wouldn't wanna ruin that carbon fiber chassis!

find an old allen key and try to JB weld it in place. also, cant tell from the picture, but depending on your tools and on the screw you may want to try using a fresh machined hex wrench, like a new hudy, dynamite, or integy. i have found that a new hex wrench can get out some screws that may seem stripped but are just a loose fit on older tools or cheapy L (allen) wrenches.

there are also some screw extractors that look like counter-sinking bits but go counter-clockwise. i have had varied success. most common solution was a fresh tool. if you have a good but worn tool with alot of tip on it, cutoff some of the tip with a dremel to get down to a fresh part.

take the car apart and try to turn the piece that it is in, or get drill or drimel?
i feel ur pain boss good luck!!!!!!! i would dremel it first. cause if u drill it, how r u going to get rest of it out of the bulkhead.

Try Ezi Out - I think that what they are called or go to a machine shop and they should be able to extract it without too much hassel :)

With the Ezi Out you just drill a small hole in the screw and then screw the ezi out into the hole. Then just remove, we used to use these on strip bolts/ screws all the time.

The suggestion above can work aswell - "take the car apart and try to turn the piece that it is in"

I use a Torx bit and tap it in.

Only I didnt pay that much for mine. I got mine for $18. I used it on my BMW E30 restoration project with great results.

Same as above post from Smoke. You take that, drill part of the screw head with the drill side of the bit, then reverse the bit on the drill head, put your drill on reverse and drive the special drill bit head into the hole you just drilled on the screw. THe specila bit head will dig into the hole of the screww and back the screw out. It works like magic and no need to dremel a slot and scar your graphite chassis.

BTW,

Looks like you need a better hex bit on your driver. Those other screw heads look pretty bad...

The simplest-- easiest way is the dremel tool cutoff wheel-- if you take your time you can slot the screw without touching the chassis--and simply take it out with a slotted screwdriver. Tried and true method --been doing it for YEARS!!!

try using a piece of paper or tissue and slot it in between the screw and screwdriver

i do this method all the time.... works the best :nod:

my other suggestion would be to not put the screws sooo damn tight. just use a lil dab of blue locktight everytime you take one out. this has helped me a tun.... just stop screwing in when the screw stops turning with extremely light pressure the locktight will hold it i promise
