how many teeth is the yellow spur?

i had a hard time gearing my car today

i went from 21 to 26 on the yellow spur with a monster stock and a gm3, no matter which motor or gear the motor was always flaming hot, i also blew out the rear diff in the main i believe(i havent taken it apart yet)

any ideas what i should be gearing at on a low bit wide open carpet track?

If your motor was hot, I'm not sure why you were adding teeth by going "from 21 to 26". Seems like you would be losing teeth.

I highly suggest you take apart and inspect the rear diff because that may be the reason for your overly hot motor.

Question: Are you using the overdrive/underdrive pulleys?

Default xxx-s

I had a xxx-s amd my motor always ran sorta hot.the yellow 48 pitch spru (stock one) is 88 teeth. I ran the orange one which was 90 teeth with a 21-22 pinion and had some good track times. Try that out..

In regard to gearing, how much experience do you have? Novice/Sportsman/Expert? As I progressed from Novice to Expert, I learned to carry more speed through the corners and was able to gear up a couple teeth in the process of getting that experience.

i been racing since around 2001 pretty much all offroad, but never really got into running touring cars and 12th scale till this winter.

my previous carpet expierence last about 3 months till i came to the track one sunday and it was now indoor nitro offroad.

so racing expierence i have plenty, running on carpet i have next to none. i can run 5 min without having to be marshalled, heck i can run 8 min in mod 12th and not have to be marshalled, but i cannot seem to keep pace with the faster guys in TC or 12th scale.

for example today my best was 23 at 5:03, TQ was was 24 at 5:01 or maybe he got 25 in the last qualifier. but i seemed to be alot smoother around the track than alot of guys that were just blowing my doors off out of the corners and getting more laps than me', same thing happened running mod 12th last weekend. im slowly picking up speed but i think its more than just my driving thats slowing me down. today i finished 2nd in the B but thats cause i was with all the noobs and was hacked in the first lap about 4 times before i got away from them or they broke out.

Wow! That's an honest assessment.

For carpet, I gotta think that gearing your XXX-S from 20-24T pinions with your 88T spur is the approximate range from small tight track to wide open fast track.

Oh...Welcome to on-road...

lol, it's tedious work for the gains you get, but if you have the patience, you can get a lot more than 10 grams

Both of my Graphite Plus cars have titanium pins and screws...a QC2 ESC and light components except for a few red aluminum pieces. My graphite battery holddown strap is whittled down to minimal. And both cars are still about 3-1/2 ounces overweight with rubber tires for Expert Stock racing.

Randy,

Thought the titanium screws were pretty light.

If I did aluminum screws, my cars would look too much like yours
