So I am looking to get back into racing and do to budgetary constraints (familiar theme) and my lack of any sort of RC compenents I have decided to get a RTR Kit the Losi XXXS RTRII. First order of buisness will probably be to strip it down and rebuild it so I learn how the drivetrain functions and to clean up as much slop as possible as I am sure coming prebuilt it will need some love.

What I am curious about is what sort of things poeple do in Order to make the XXXS more competive. Shiming smallish setup changes cheep parts that make a huge impact on performance basically nothing thats gonna cost me another $50 bucks right away but some simple setup stuff that helps the car perform consistenly. Ive read something about outdrives and a black belt conversion??? any light on this stuff I figured this was the best place to ask.

yadaopie,

First...Have fun with it.

Second...Black belt conversion kit...$16.95-19.95...Do this along with the teardown you mentioned.

Third (maybe second)...Tires for whatever surface you intend to drive on.

Sounds good gonna basically run around and ask the locals what they run for tires figure this is about the best way to get a starting point.

Next question could you elaborate on the Black Belt conversion kit... what exactly is it and whats it help with. Also any thing I should pay particualr attention to other then basic shimming to take up slack... (check the rear hingpins or the diffs or something particualr that can be wrong with the RTR kit by default?)

I really appreciate the help guys

The black belt kit comes with a longer idler pulley arm which allows the belt to make a more gradual "S" turn from the spur gear to the idler pulley wheel. This frees up the drivetrain significantly and improves acceleration.

It is a fairly extensive R&R project; so, you might wait until your first servicing of the diffs to do it.

If you concentrate on the posts of "James Nguyen", you will get just about everything imaginable about the XXX-S cars. Randy Caster (now gone to the dark side) was another great contributor to this string.

Does the rigid bumper set come with the G+ kit? Im doing a rebuild and just got the bumper set and it looks like the same one that came with the kit?? It feels alittle stiffer but that might be because its new.

Not the upgrade but the actual G+ kit. I looked at the parts list online for the G+ and it lists the extra rigid bumper so Im assuming its in the kit........... I thought I was ordering something special but I guess I already have it.
