I agree with you guys the XXX Main book does have a lot of good advise and explanations in it how ever nothing beats the experience on the track and practice. as for the motor cycle thing be carefull and don't get in over your head I used to race them and with all the injuries and medical problems I am no longer able to ride them I wish I could. but I have seen experienced rider get hurt really bad also so please be carefull.

Rick's had stock shocks when I looked at it at nats.....as did Peter Robinson's and Dave Bowsers in stock(they finished 2nd and 3rd) and they both made the A in 19t.

Like I say, I dont think the Tamiya shocks are any better than the Losi's on the track, they are just easier to work on. We have a lot of tracks in southern cali so we change oils a lot more than you would with just one track, bieng able to change oil fast and get consistant results is a big plus.

I agree with Randy. Try making an oil change two practice runs in a row and get them consistant with Losi shocks. It's tough. The Tamiya's are just simple and quick.

Black Belt kit [LOSA3280]

Maybe a front bumper brace if you want to take some flex out of the fron body mounts. [LOSA4245]

You probably want to get yourself a few different weights of shock oil and a few different springs.

I think that's about it as far as absolutely necessary upgrades out of the box and even then I'd only consider the black belt kit as necessary since it does make a big difference.

As far as spare parts I think it would be wise to have spare front and rear arms as well as additional CVD kits. In the last 2 months I have broken a rear arm and a front left CVD which in turn tore up my inside wheel bearing. I'm sure other people on there who have been racing the xxx-s for a few years have a better idea of what you'll want to have on hand in your parts box.
