Losi XXX-S

Dawson,
I just got an insane deal on a fully loaded XXX-S (Full graphite). I have been a die hard Pro 3 fan and have had good sucess with it. However, I heard that HPI was going to Discontinue the car so I decided to try the XXX-S.
I bought the car assembled and have not got the instructions from the seller yet. I haven't driven it yet. What should I know about the car, knowing nothing about Losi cars? Should I purchase a front one way dif, sway bars, heatsinks etc.......
Also do you know of any good XXX-S sites that are deadicated to set-ups and tips for the XXX-S?
Thanks

LJ,
Check out the link below. That should get you acqainted with some of the past things people have looked for.
As for the tuning parts; you wont need a one-way or sway bar early on.
I would try the box setup first and go from there. A lot of the setup has to do with the surface you plan to run on.
Start in the FAQ first......

Darkside - I heard the same thing. A friend of mine that races frequently at SoCal Raceway (where alot of the factory drivers race) said that he's seen Thad Garner (HPI employee and probably their best in-house driver) driving the TC3 quite a bit. My friend said that he's seen Thad driving a car painted all white with the windows blacked out. While this doesn't sound strange, I do know that Thad has a "signature" paint job that he always runs. He could be testing the car for feel for some new setups for the Pro3 or he could be doing some research for a new car. Who knows. Anyway, don't take my word for it. I'm only relaying what I've heard.

LJracer- Follow what MDawson said about the FAQ but you have all of the basic info you could possibly need right here on this thread ...for some strange reason we don't do it for you you could always go to Trinity Tech talk and go to the Todd Hodge thread and ask your question there.
As far as the Pro3 is concerned they should discontinue it until they can come up with a DECENT car. When Hara raced out here at Speedworld he had specially made parts for his car that he was testing out. It seems that HPI is doing the R&D they should've done before a kit was put into a box. From the last picture's on the web that I saw of the car the only thing that looks to be left over from the original is the shocks and the rims...but enough of that car this is the LOSI thread. Carpet starts this week. Man I can't wait to see how this car handles on the rug.

I agree on the HPI issue. The Pro 3 should never have been released in its current form. The car Hara has been driving is so far from the production version it's a joke. We're not just talking a "Team" version of the car with graphite and aluminum parts, we're talking different geometry and handling characteristics.
When I saw the prototype Pro 3 I thought it was a great theoretical design, and I almost ordered one myself. But they made some major design errors with the car, and on top of that they produced a kit with little value compared to what else is out there. Sure, you can get it cheap, but how much do you have to spend to make it compete? When and if they do release the parts that Hara is using, how much would it cost to upgrade to that version of the car? Probably as much as a whole new kit.
I have nothing against HPI. My first TC was a RS4 Pro and I did well with it. They have been a great innovative company in the past, but they made a major mistake in billing the Pro 3 as a competition-class TC when it was nowhere close. Ironically, the Pro and Pro 2 were quite competitive out-of-the-box (compared to other cars of their day) when HPI was not targeting the same market.

I also race at SoCal and I spoke to numerous sorces one of which used to work at HPI, he told me that Thad is trying all of the touring car on the market so that they can go back to the drawing board and start again! I personally like the car, but am getting tired of ordering part from HK.
Hara's car is 20% HPI that's not a good sign!
Hey the Losi car is really nice and I can't wait to try it out on the track this week....

STNLST,
You forgot to add that he was running 39/40r tires at that Norrca event. Great tire for the heat, even better if you were the only one that had them.....

Just curious...
I removed and THREW away the teflon shields (innerside only) for ALL the bearings on the XXX-S. Any potential problems of dust entering the tunnel or the hubs to cook the bearing?? And are the stock shocks that bad? Any good way of getting air out of those shocks? Thanks.

Has anyone gotten the short threaded shock bodies and shafts? How well do they work?

I don't believe they are available yet. According to Horizon's page they are not in stock yet.
On another note, I just added the graphite component kit for the Losi xxx-s car. Stop by and take a look if you want. Thanks! www.kthobbies.com

The Losi part is not in stores yet, I got mine from a Trinity Cyrul Street Weapon conversion kit.
