Losi XXX-S

yes, bearings do blow, but I wouldn't expect it at the very first race with a stock motor.
To be quite honest, the car has a few issues I don't like:
1.) The issue with the front shock shafts being too long
2.) The shock eyelets pop off REALLY easy
3.) The set screws are a joke, because of the way too soft plastic they are threated into. They don't hold their settings during a race.
4.) The spur gear bearings
5.) ALL screws and turnbuckles started rusting before I even had a chance to run the car for the first time. This doen't affect performance, but heck, the car looks older than my 2 year old Yokomo.
Well, maybe I'm just spoiled by my Yokomo, but I think Losi needs to fix this stuff to live up to their reputation.

-cut your shafts.
-place washers on the outside of the eyelets.
-change to graphite carriers
-first I have heard of with the spur bearings, were they over tightened?
-rusting?? again, first I have heard of.

Jam - $50? good deal..
Get the graphite chassis.. It is about $50 too.
The reason some of the stuff rusts is you can do stainless or you can go with the hardend. The stainless bends... The hardend really doesnt. The hardend Hinge pins have this problem if left stored it "damp" places...
As for the brearings.. They fail.. But there i susually a cause.

In the Losi instruction manual it mentions that there is some belt skip with low-wind motors or other unusually "torque-y" configurations. It says it is normal and will not affect performance. However, I have not actually observed this on my own car or any of the others I've seen. Playing with the belt tension is about all I can think of.
stefan: If the screws on your car are rusting, you must be storing it under some strange conditions. I keep mine in my living room on the mantle (heh heh) so that might not be a big problem for me, but if you're storing it in, say, a damp garage or basement, you might consider moving it indoors or storing it in some sort of airtight container.

Anyway thanks for the tips and I'll let you all know how it compares with my trusty TC3.

Troy, I use a product called brasso, stick the pin in the drill/dremel and polish them up, almost good as new.

Speedo - They didn't need polish... They didnt rust very bad... jsut had a very little ammount on them. You wouldnt even notice untill you look at it close.
I have other stuff i can use also. Mother's Polish & then some stuff i have used that is like a fabric with the solution built in...you rip a piece off then put it back in the can if its still good.

I am for helping those to want to be helped and share setups but not interested in listening people slam things they dont understand. There are easy things to look out for. At some point we should put a FAQ together regarding this info to help the new guys get it together.

If anybody wants to start a separate FAQ thread, go for it. I think that would be a great idea. It is stuff like that that I can post up on the home page under the "Articles" section, and give all of you credit who submit stuff.
Actually, I just had a great idea for a new forum. Vehicle FAQs! The first post in each thread can be a "running post" to keep all of the information, and be continuously updated by the creator. Everybody else can respond to the thread with any information they might have, and the first poster (the "keeper") can add the information to the first post.
Good idea!

As an outsider (I haven't bought the XXX-S, yet), I appreciate both the positive and negative comments about this or any other kit/product that I'm thinking of buying. The internet being what it is (free and open to anyone that has a Library Card), I feel that I'm able to "filter" the constructive criticism from the "Haters".
