I currently drive a MR-4TC Special, but after reading a couple of articles and the posts here, I'm considering the Losi car.
Several of the design aspects of this car make me want to get it. Specifically, the one peice chassis belt cover is a neat idea. I also like the ease of access to the diffs.
An article that I read said that XXX-S required a Losi made spur gear, but that an adapter was on the way that would allow spurs from other manuf. to work. Can any of you guys confirm this?
Also, not having seen the car in person, I'm wondering about the motor mount... Is it aluminum, or is it made of the same material as the chassis? My concern is the motor heat on composite material???
Last, threaded shocks. I've seen the posts that some of you are using the threaded units from the StreetWeapon. Are these shocks a perfect fit, or just a "patch" until Losi releases shocks designed specifically for the XXX-S?
Thanks

What I did to my shocks should be fine,,instead of the cyrul shocks.. I cut half of the threads off of the shock shaft ,,shortening it about 1/8th inch. this lowers the piston in the shock,, keeping it in the oil.
I also shortened the shock end by 1/8th inch,, which allows for more down travel (no bottoming)
the next thing I did was take trinity blue collars and modify them so they 2 together is one piece. I cut most of the ring off of the bottom of one, and opened the hole in the top of the other so that one "plugs into" the other,, then JB welded (epoxy) them together,, they now have 2 orings, and fit awesom! and look KEWL!!!! Now they will fit on the front of the car as well as the rear (can only fit one otherwise)

I am thinking about getting a XXX-S and was wondering how the car does on carpet with foams and a stock motor. I looked at the Losi web site and found Andrew Gray's carpet/foam set up and it looked like the car would be stiff and carry a lot of corner speed. I need to know if the car can keep up with a TC3 on a tight indoor carpet track with foams and a stock motor. Please let me know the ups and downs of the car. Thanks.

I wont drive mine on carpet for another 2 months,, last week at our annual race there wasnt one TC3 in the "a" if that says anything,,
stock may be a little closer than mod,, but in mod,, there is no TC3 around here that can touch a XXXS,, and there are only about 5 of us who have them.

Geppetto: Thinking of switching huh? Yes there will be an adapter for the spur gear. Losi driver Jason Corl said so himself when discribing his car in the Racer News section of Car Action.
The motor plate is aluminum. the clamp that holds it is plastic. You can be sure their will be an aluminum clamp out soon. Hopefully they will follow they example set by the new Losi truck and pick another color for the aluminum on this car. Blue-everybodies been there and done that. Try red, green, black, something other than BLUE!
The Losi cars are making for some great competition at the track. Looks like a really good car. I'll stick with my C4.1 though. Good luck!

If you want to talk about a return of the old guard, I read somewhere that Jack Johnson has been seen running his XXX-NT here and there...
If Joel's racing again, he's probably doing it just for fun this time around, although you know that Trinity and Losi are still going to give him whatever he wants!

the shocks are a direct fit, although paul lemiuex said that he thinks losi is coming out with a shorter shaft.....and body...
on the body brace.....i would worry more about stripping out the screws on a hard hit.....

Yea, I managed to strip at least three of the small 4-40 3/8" screws when I was putting the car together.
Somebody told me about these things called instructions, but I didn't look too hard for them...

Ty - I race the car with foams in the stock class at a couple of local indoor carpet tracks and it's doing quite well. Definitely not a problem keeping up with the TC3's. I was concerned about this car on carpet too until I saw how well they did. In my opinion this car seems a little easier to drive in comparison to my TC3 but that's probably just attributable to set up. If you need a base line set up just let me know.

I would like to know what is the material that they are currently using in XXX-S. Are they graphite? I saw the new option parts from Losi in their web site, are they all new parts for XXX-S?

TRF - The Losi XXX-S stock chassis & parts are made from the losi Stiffzel, its like a composite. The option parts you was were the graphite parts.
Wolverine - Take your time, and pre-thread all the screws with the oversived 4-40 ( its the gold screw ). If you don't, you will do what Futureal did and strip the head of the small screws.
