KO Servo output gear wear
 

Hello all,

Has anyone else had this problem?

I'm running a KO PS713 FET servo in my pro3, which has the plastic gears.

Now, there seems to be a lot of play in where the servo arm connects to the output gear.

I've tried fitting a different pro3 servo arm. and the problem remains - more tellingly, I've fitted on a KO servo arm designed for another car, and that too had a lot of play.

That suggests to me that it's not a problem with the HPI moulding, rather that the output gears (which are made from his rather soft-looking plastic) have deformed or worn through use.

I need to tighten the servo screw between each round, otherwise (as you'd expect) the car gets a mind of it's own during the race.

(It took me a long time to realise that the dodgy steering afflicting my car from the last month was down to servo arm play).

I'm just wondering if anyone else has had this problem with their plastic gear KO servo, before I go out and buy a new gear set (sadly, metal aren't available for this model).

Yes the 712/713 gears do wear with age.However normally it is the internal gears developing some play. Have you checked the front face of the output gear. Sometimes the plastic 'pushes' out at the thread area and you do not get a flat surface, this sometimes comes across as 'play' in the servo saver also......run a sharp knife across the front!

Thanks for proving I'm not the only one! - I've ordered new gears anyway, so I'll be able to check them back to back.

Bear in mind that the 713 doesn't have a ballrace on the output gear, it is simply the fit between the gear and the casing.

New gears installed - problem sorted! Thanks for the help.
